Best Adobe Premiere Workflow?

and real quick, how is your playback in AE? It's significantly slower than PPro even when i import just single clips into AE. AE's playback comes in or around 19fps.

That´s crazy. What`s going on here? :-)

So, you say this:
" i don't think you can replace the video with a PPro project file"

So, it´s not possible?

okay, you cannot "replace" the footage using that AE...you have to start a new one. I just tried replacing the footage and it only selects one single clip. The AE file I have for those to d/l is just to demonstate stair step fix...it wan't intended for anyone to replace the file with their PPro projects...but now onto how to bring in your project file from PPro.

Open AE. Start a new project. Call it whatever. Import your PPro project. Import the .tif file from the download i provided.

Start a new compostion witht he PPro project sequence. Then drag the .tif under the PPro sequence. Click on your PPro file go to effect/distort/displacement map. Under you effects settings you have "displacement map layer" drop the box down and select the tif file as your displacement. Set your horizon to "0" and your vertical to ".3"

Yeah, that´s a good way. I tried out various amounts as well. It seems, that it depends on the footage which one is the right one. I also got good results with
horiz.: 0.5; vert.: -0.5
horiz.: 0; vert.: 0.5

I think it doesn´t differ too much from the Lee Fix. But for the worklflow now I found my best way:

- edit the native clips in pp
- make a nested sequence - you´ll get only one whole clip
- RMC on the clip in the TL => replace with After Effects Composition
- edit in ae with the procedure mentioned above

You get the big advantage of a live update in pp + no problems with multiple clips. => only 1 final rendering at the end of the day for the complete project. Very easy + cool...

Ok it's ok to apply the filter in AE, ok to use dynamic link to transfer the project to AE for demonstration ...

But in the real life with a big project, if you edit in CS a real project with multi sequences then you can use dynamic link to transfer to AE
1) You have to use another sequence container to apply the filter map one time and not for each sequence
2) You will loose many things and most important : all the transitions !!!

So I find this method is not a good way.

=> I didn't found the good way yet

I tried to convert all video before with virtual Dub, but on my PC the virtual Dub method introduce a bad continious time, image are blocking sometime ... Tested on 2 PC and you have to use a external batch program to automate I did'nt remember the name ..

I tried to export the final CS project in a lossless codec, but I tested two : Huff and Lagarith, it' s works great on short samples but on a big film (about 10min only so ) sometimes on transition there is a strange color noise ...

So I don't have yet a good proposal solution to use stair step fix under AE. I'm waiting for you ;)

And I'm just changing my PC from P4 to C2 Quad Core 4Go Ram to edit with more comfort

Ok, you`ll loose the transitions, if you apply them before. Transitions are not my problem => afterwards you can cut the clip at places you want to bring in transitions you want. This is a matter of some minutes. Nothing else you´gonna loose, except you are working with effects which are not included in ae.

And your problem in pt 1) I don´t really understand > you can use DL in every sequence or in one last final => it´s no big deal.

But maybe there is a better way for some guys - let´s stay tuned...

Fotoweb, could you please elaborate on that? I haven't seen any problems yet and I'm not sure which one you're describing here. Are you using VirtualDubMod or just VirtualDub?
It could also be a codec problem....

The batch programs I use for VirtualDubMod are:

AviSynth Batch Scripter (http://designfoto.nl/ABatchScript.htm) and

VirtualDub Batch Assistant 1.02 (http://wareseeker.com/Video/virtualdub-batch-assistant-1.02.zip/3510539)

They have their little bugs but they work.

I use these two Batch Scripter end VirtualDubMod, (I tried virtualDub but it's the same), it seems I am the only one that have the problem, but i tried on my home PC and Office and had the same bug, I don't know how to tell in english, but the LeeWilson fixed Video is no more "stair stepped" but when you play the file it became accelerated and with blocked frames, that what I meaned by "not continious".

I 'm trying to make an new configuration with an new OS Win XP 64 so peharps I will not have the bug again ..

By transitions i mean (not the cuttings that are keeped in AE) but the effect transition (in black, in white ...) Someone told me not tu use these effects but use opacity variation in CS kepped in AE. But I find it's longer and when I import all the project in AE if you have 30 or more 100 for example small sequences in AE it' unusable I find.

And your problem in pt 1) I don´t really understand > you can use DL in every sequence or in one last final => it´s no big deal.

I know i can import by DL all sequence in one but after you have to apply the filter displacement map to each sequence one by one if you have 100 it's very difficult. I don't know how to apply the filter Displacement to all Sequence in 1 click in AE Could you tell us ? ( To do that I place all my sequence in one under CS it's call recursive sequence I think ? )

This is exactly what I mean. Of cause you´ll loose cuts + transitions in AE. I wrote it. But the thing is the fix wouldn´t work correctly if you apply transitions + effects before fixing stair stepping. It would become a mess. So, first fix in ae, then transitions + effects in pp.

Simply - you put all the sequences in pp in 1 final and this final you should replace with an ae-compostion...

OK I didn't think to this way. So for a real project

1) put all the "raw" seqences in PP
2) In PP put all sequence in one sequence
3) Dynamic Link the big one to AE
4) In AE apply the filter displacement fix
5) In PP make cuts with linked seq and transistions effects etc .. ( I 'll hope I can edit the sub sequence I'm not sure )

Waow I will try this evening, fortunaly I've just made a powerfull PC to do this Stuff !

Thanks Capice

Yes, you can edit everything, except for a few effects + transitions which don´t work correctly. You have to give it a try. If these transitions are most important to you, maybe the way of Car30 with Importing the pp-project in ae is the better alternative for you. The only downside then is that you must render 1 time more...
