Best 29.97 Recording Settings

I love the 1080p24 hack with the "C" settings, however, occasionally I'd like to be able to shoot in 1080p29.97. Any recommendations for how that can be done? I've been just recording 720p60 when I need 29.97, so that I can just cut the frame rate in half in post to achieve 29.97. It would be nice to have full 1920x1080@29.97p.

I also posted this question in the general GH1 forum, but I couldn't figure out how to delete it or move it, so that's the reason for the double post.

So there's no native or hacked way to get 1080p29.97, you can only get 29.97 in 720p?

By 29.97, of course, I'm referring to 30fps NTSC drop-frame rate used for broadcast in the United States)

Then I don't see a need for the 3-frame GOP, since 60 fps is a nice option to have for slowmo, and if I want 720p29.97 I can just transcode the 720p60 mode. I use Avid Media Composer, which imports all footage into DNxHD, a lossless codec comprised entirely of I-frames. Because of that attribute of Media Composer, the GOP-length does not make any post production difference for me.

I don't want to sound like I'm being confrontational; clearly you're more knowledgeable, I'm just trying to figure out if that patch is a good choice for me right now.

it is a good choice if you know you want 29.97p and also want the highest, but reliable, quality possible.

So that patch improves 720p29.97 quality because eliminating the 60p allows more bitrate to be used on each frame?
