Barry's HVX Book?

Chris is right: Barry affirmed HERE in this forum that there will be a book - he even said "soon", but let's just wait until he gets his HVX before we start with our pressure...

OK! Spank me silly for not searching! :embarasse

Don't be too hard on yourself. My search on 'Barry Green HVX Book' brought up about 500 entries. Quotes bring up nothing and adding 'guide' to the preceding brings up only 11 dead-end entries or nothing.

From memory--Barry correct me if I'm wrong--he said he'd start writing it once he got the cam and put it out ASAP, which probably means sometime in first quarter '06.

And not before you explored, examined thoroughly, tweaked, disassembled, reassembled, tried underwater, in mud, skydiving, experimented with all sorts of gadgets, and generally tested the hell out of it!

So add a day or two more!

Barry, if you go skydiving with the HVX, make sure you share the footage! I want to see the ground coming at me at 120mph in 1080/24p!!!

Most importantly, don't mix up your gear backpack with the parachute. :undecided

Besides, 120mph at 24p may be a tad "strobby"! Go with 720p60! Don't jump from too high, otherwise you'll run out of P2 space. LOL

skydiving with P2..... this means: NO PICTURE FAILURES!

The G-forces won't have ANY effect on picture like tape-based recordings do.

And hot-swap of P2 cards is easier during the skydive than changing a tape...

GO BARRY - GO!

Yeah! But don't drop it as you swap the P2, you're going to cry all the way to landing as you watch the P2 card fly off like a butterfly catching the wind chaotically. Bye bye extremely expensive P2!

At this stage, erase the current P2 in the HVX, and record the unatural flightpath of the air-bound P2 card. It'll probably win an Emmy. Just don't forget to pull the rip cord! :engel017:

can the HVX record directly to Firestore WHILE SKYDIVING? - If not, then I won't buy the cam.... (do we start again?)

You probably don't need a Firestore for skydiving. The free fall only lasts about a minute, which is short enough for even the smallest P2 cards.

That sounds about right. It'll be out as soon as I can get it, but not before it's ready.

Do you think Jan will include it free with an HVX purchase? Maybe the early adopters can get a coupon good for a free book when it's released.

Ouff! I'm relieved. No need to swap cards!

Yes! I like that coupon idea!

Well, yeah, but if you did find it, it'd probably still work...

from Barry's HVX-book:

"4.12.3. SKYDIVING:

Skydiving with your HVX can really be fun, but needs a good preparation: not only for your skydive-equipment, but also for the camera. For skydiving set menu as following:

1. set "mode" on : "Skydiving"
2. set "alti-beep" : "ON"
3. choose any preset altitude for alarm
4. set "HS-LRM" : "ON" (if you want an alarm for Hot-Swap - camera will beep 10 sec. before Hot-Swap needed)

Learn the following beep-signals by heart:

(-) means: long beep (.) means short beep

- Two long beeps (--) mean: preset altitude reached
- Two short beeps (..) mean: swap card within 10 sec.
- Three long beeps (---) mean: open parachute... please! Otherwise you're gonna be a pretty Pizza four Seasons (PAL-version: ketchup)

- Three short, three long, three short beeps (...---...) means:

"Ok, listen: too late for parachute - you're definitely gonna be Pizza (PAL-version: ketchup) and the camera that you had preordered months before release and that you have been waiting for so long will be dust, BUT you can save the P2 cards if you choose YES for finalize and safety-ejection. Choose NO if you don't care and want to laugh about people trying to get the stuck card out of the rest of your camera or just leave camera in the menu."
