Barry's HVX Book?

Hi everyone,

There is a lot of work to be done between now and the official roll out at DVExpo. We might be able to post a frame grab or two before then, but I think that it will be difficult to get something really good up much before then. I know, I can hear the whining already, but please you have to just tough it out. I will work on some frame grabs. How is that?

Thanks for your patience.

On the other part of the discussion, Barry and I are discussing how to include a book with every camera and how to deal with the fact that the book will be done after we ship the first couple of months of cameras.

Best,

Jan

Jan,
Only a new-bee around here - but a Panny shooter from down-under for over 6 years. Really appreciate your regular updates and strong link with the DVX/HVX community.

I know you have little control over international markets - but can you put a word in with Panasonic international to see if something can be worked out for PAL HVX200's with Barry's (yet to be written - laugh) HVX book?

Once again - thanks for all your feedback and time spent on the boards.

Cheers, Nathan.

Yes, of course Barry's book. Maybe the early adopters can get a coupon that they can cash in when the book comes out.

As THIS idea seems to me not only very good for "early adopters", but also as general solution. Like the postcards that you get with some products for ordering free software e.g. . If users of PAL-versions don't have as many framerates as NTSC-users, they should at least get also a book if NTSC-users do. "We" PAL users are perhaps only a few hundred million potential customers, but we have feelings too!

Thank you Jan. It can be done as Cici said or simply once the book is ready, call and give your serial number, date and place of purchase along with proof of purchase and the book can be shipped to the buyer. Barry besides the features of the camera and different shooting scenarios may be a section on hooking up the HVX to a computer and different products (if available by then, HD Rack, Firestore, Ipod, Lap top and Desktop computers, and possibly coding the file for streaming on Windows Media and Quicktime) would be helpful. Just a suggestion.

I'd love to work a deal like that with the PAL territories. It's up to them, though. Jan is over the US and doesn't have any influence over how the other countries allocate their marketing dollars. Panasonic New Zealand liked the book enough to buy it and bundle it with NZ purchases, so we know it can be done. If you want to see it happen, you have to ask the decision-makers in those countries/territories.

And a good suggestion. Workflow issues will feature heavily in the HVX Book, since the workflow is probably the most revolutionary (and therefore unfamiliar) aspect of it.

That says a lot about the accompanying HVX manual :) I wonder why dont companies hire authors like Barry to write a good manual in the first place instead of doing it in the aftermarket

When I read Nikon D70 manual and Thom Hogan's $29 D70 handbook - it was day and night! Nikon could have easily cut a deal with Thom and increased the price by $10 or eaten the extra cost.

I think Barry probably makes a lot more money if he writes his own book. Also it gives him the prestiege of being an author, and the independence to say whatever he wants, good or bad.

Barry, the DVX book is awesome. I've read it twice and I take it in the field on all my projects (just in case). The one thing I wish the book had was an index.

Barry, can you sign my reserved first copy please ??:)
Well, I think there's still a claw-and-scratch fight that you owe Rich Lee first, right? Winner gets the autographed copy. :cheesy:

An index would be good. I shall endeavor to make one for the new book.

Barry,

Where could I find a copy of your dvx book?

Wow i'm an idiot you have a link in your signature. This is why attention to detail es muy importante.

Well, yeah, but if Rich Lee claws you to death, I mean...

Okay, then it is officially left to him in my will.......er.... not sure if it is wise to encourage him to claw me to death though :undecided

I think Barry is starting to rub off.. the 100b manual is alot better written... and the size has been squished down to Barry's book size, so they both can fit in your camera bag alot easier.
