Barry, when will the test with the 4 cams be conducted?

When can we expect to read the review on DVXuser.com??

What will be the difference in image quality (noise, sensitivity, latitude etc.) between the US and european version of the HVX ???

Any chance you can test the audio, too? Both the XLR inputs and the onboard mics. At least compare them to the DVX.

hes just getting things together right now... its looking pretty good that he will have the article up though late next week.

It'll also be written up on DV.com; I've been most delighted to have secured the great Adam Wilt to come along and participate, and he's going to do an article/writeup on the whole thing for DV magazine.

Should happen next week.

Nice. Hope you get credit for setting it up.

BTW, there was a picture a few weeks ago of you guys with a tripod with 3 cameras on it. Whatever happened to that test?

We're doing it on Wednesday. I'll have a Varicam and an F900 there also. We'll compare resolution, colorimetry, exposure latitude, and I plan on making a compression torture test involving a lot of image movement. We'll be able to get a good idea where this camera fits in.

Please test also Xl H1:)

Thanks:)

Can't wait! I'm really interested in seeing if the rumors that Canon's 24F mode creates an odd effect when motion is introduced into the image.

Hope the test will include "measured date" and not only subjective observations so there will not be any doubt about the test results.

Any chance you can put either a DSR 450 or 570 in the mix? That's the real question for me... A 450 would be better, since it can also do 24pa.

Z1U can give great picture and clarity.

Z1U can give great picture and clarity.

I really don't care about this comparison now that I've seen this: http://www.lumieremedia.com/tomorrowistoday/tomorrow_trailer/

Shot entirely on the HDR-Z1U 1080i50(link) . Looks beautiful. The wierd stuff the color gradients of the shots with the sunset is due to compression for the web. They also say that none of this has been color corrected(view previous link).

Although I already have a Z1, I'm sold on it now.

You made the wrong choice greg. You have an opinion, so do I, no need to announce it to the world to make yourself feel better about your money spent.

It would be a waste of time to do it any other way. I will have a Leader waveform/vector, all the necessary charts and a really really good monitor. Cameras will also be checked for auto-white accuracy, performance of the knee circuit, true sensitivity and ISO rating, My plan is to leave with quantifiable measurements of the HVX versus the Varicam and F900. The subjective impression is just as important, however. I've found that I rarely go into a movie theater to enjoy test charts.

We will also be doing Barry's double blind shoot out between the competing HDV cameras. We should probably record the HD-SDI out of the Canon and compare it in that mode also. Should be interesting.

I apologize, but I must comment about what you have just said. You denounce me for announcing to the world (you call DVXuser.com the world of professional videographers??? WRONG) that the Z1U is a camera that is semi pro-worthy, yet you, so wittingly, decided to announce your opinion to "the world" as well; This is slightly hypocritical. Next time, don't pass judgement so lightly.

I can't find a single problem in the video that I linked. It is a sharp, clear image, with nothing wrong in the compression. I will probably buy an HVX200 for out-of-work stuff (what my Z1U is for me now) - my profession is also my hobby - and compare the two.

Seriously, if you want to go PRO, go work with a CineAlta or something of that quality. All these "Pro HD" cameras(HVX200, Z1U, FX1, XL H1, GY-HD100) are fancy words for "prosumer" - not quite pro grade, not quite consumer grade. I work with Professional SD cameras everyday, so I have a fine idea on what the fine line b/t proffessional and prosumer includes (interchangable lenses [not always], streamline interfacing with manual servo focus and zoom, BNC outs, ins, Betacam SX or HD variant back-decks, etc.)

(updated)
OH! and one more thing... I have had the Z1U for almost a year - the HVX is still in its beta stage, I believe.
I guess we should all stop complaining about the "vertical resolution", "compression factors", etc. and start doing what we're supposed to do! Make creative work and be productive! (unless you're a DP and it is your job to supervise quality as well as cinematography).

I'd also rather be called "Greg" and not "greg" - It's improper.

Again, I apologize for my rant.
