Hi,

Recently I stumbeled upon a 'Baby' Canon Scope C-8 2x anamorphic lens (anamorphot). I can't find find any info on this lens anywhere on the net, just 2 short clips on youtube which were shot horribly and overexposed and one old auction on e-bay where it's being noted as a very very rare lens. The seller is asking 550 dollar for it. Is this a resonable price? Does anyone have any info or inks on this lens. Any feedback watsoever on this would be great. :)

Don't know anything about that anamorphic lens adapter. Sorry.

I do know that you can get some really nice anamorphic adapters for $500 on Ebay, and often times for cheaper than that.

there are only a couple of hundred made according to the seller so it's extremely rare. It's a 2x stretch version, most anamorphot adapters in this price range are 1.33 or 1.5 (projector lens excluded). I'm really in doubt here. It's new territory for me so I don't have a reference point. What are good alternatives in the same price range and with 2x stretch?

SLR Magic makes on add on lens, as well as diopters and a variable diopter they call a focusing device.

2x anamorphic lenses are actually a lot more common than 1.5x or 1.33x. The unique factor here is that it's a super compact lens for 8mm film and it's a 2x stretch. To my knowledge, only the extremely rare "Baby" Hypergonar comes close (1.75 stretch). That being said, it's almost definitely a dual focus lens, meaning that you'd have to focus the anamorphic lens and the taking lens separately (i.e. you can't rack focus). You could always add an SLR Magic rangefinder to the front of it which would allow you to rack, but it would also increase the size of your setup significantly.

I have this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Isco-Micro-...58mm-filter-/181748133837?hash=item2a51086fcd

I like it when coupled with a fast prime, like a Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 or something similar. It's sharp even at wide aperture settings, and works great with the GH4 in anamorphic mode.

Focusing is a pain in the butt, because you have to adjust the anamorphic focus plus the taking lens focus. But the 2x stretch is really pretty.

I don't know how the 'Baby' Canon Scope C-8 2x anamorphic lens you're looking at compares visually to some of the more popular adapters out there, though.

That isco micro looks nice though a pretty heavy set but I'm going to keep that one mind.
These videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nFG3gbhRLQ, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW6qqKbox3c were posted by the previous owner of the seller I am in contact with now. It is horribly exposed and out of focus but I don't think it is due to the lens.
On the original ebay auction he states the following:

Condition & other details:
Both glasses are fine, please refer to photos.
Body is fine too.
Serial number: 1254.

Weight: ~250gr

Stretch: 2x
Minimum focusing distance: 50cm - infinity

Pros: Gives a very good image quality. Has stunning, very modern, blue sci-fi flare. Able to focus from 50cm without diopters!

Cons:Very but Very but very RARE...

Because it's not a projector lens it's relatively light, so that's a plus. The seller I am in contact with now has uploaded a sample on vimeo for my viewing purposes shot on a gh2, but once again also not a good reference point. Moreover I don't have any reference myself whatsoever and these samples don't look impressive but I don't think it is due to the lens but to the (focus) setup and cam settings. Maybe a trained eye can tell me more, I'm still in doubt wether to make the jump or not. I would love to hear your expertise view.
