GH4 B&H Now Sells the Mitakon SpeedBooster Adapters $138

TheDingo, what's your feedback on the Mitakon? I remember you were talking about doing a comparison between the Metabones and Mitakon...

Keiko Alingas has a review for CheesyCam up on YouTube. I have to say, this seems a quality, affordable alternative to the very pricey SpeedBooster.

Yeah, I haven't had a chance to do a proper test yet. From my experience the Nikon version of the Mitakon SpeedBooster produces a nice image, that is comparable to the Metabones adapter. ( I used it for a few commercial jobs with no problems at all )

The Metabones adapter is physically better built and may be better optically, but I haven't done a proper side-by-side comparison yet so I can't say for sure. ( I'll try to do a proper test this weekend )

awesome, i was checking to see if the 42.5mm Mitakon was in stock and saw this adapter, was hoping someone on here had information, can't wait to see the test since im hoping to move from all panny/olympus lenses to canon soon.

I have one of these and love it. I bet Metabones is slightly better, but this thing works as I like. Does NOT fit my canon EF-S? 10-22mm wide though. fits my Sigma 18-35mm 1.8, Canon 50mm 1.4, Canon kit EF lenses I have and forget the number of

It makes the 50mm 1.4 even furrier at 1.4, but the lens is already fuzzy so it is magnifying that.

Pretty much all major brand 50mm f/1.4 lenses suffer from coma and chromatic-aberration at f/1.4, which greatly improves at f/2.0 and beyond.

The exceptions are the $4K Zeiss 55mm f/1.4 OTUS and Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART lenses, which are well corrected at full aperture.

just did a test last night.... ZHYONGI (whatever) Lens Turbo on my GH4 with Sigma 18-35mm 1.8..... I was set to 1.8 and focused on a test chart at No.7 with the horz lines next to it.... 6 and 8 were out of focus.... it is weird, but without the adapter the lens moved focus during zoom to the whole next number... I put the Lens Turbo on and it held focus on the same #7 zoom to zoom. It moved the slightest little bit, so small, I don't think anyone would even notice without shooting charts. Certainly not near enough to ruin a scene - an actor moving a half inch would put him out of focus way more than the lens zoom would.

I figure that is a good thing.

Also previously did some quick tests like in the post above - but I dont have a MEtabones to compare with. I feel the pics above seemed accurate compared to what I was getting.

On the one hand you have the universally acknowledged "best in class" Metabones. On the other hand you have claims that this time the clones really got it right, and you can get MB quality, or close to it, for 1/3 the money or 1/4 the money, sure there's controversy, because 9 months ago a test showed that the clones were ridiculously inferior, but now it's 9 months later, and new models... no new tests to prove it, but hey, new models and new hope! OK, so I look at this situation, and see $450 vs $100-$150, and I ask myself, do I pay $300 extra for the universally acknowledged "best in class" MB, or do I roll the dice and hope the clone is "good enough"? After having paid for the camera and lenses through the nose, I figure an extra $300 is not worth spoiling the image, taking the chance and otherwise being penny wise and pound foolish. I've bought cheap stuff "to save" too often in my life, only to discover it was money wasted, since I had to buy the better stuff later anyway. My verdict: I buy the Metabones. Your Milage May Vary. Unless there is a new test that PROVES the clones are as good or nearly as good, I'm doing the safe and sensible thing... but that's just me.
