I scored this great little film that won top prize last night at USU's Fringe Film Festival (arts.usu.edu/fringe). It's just a small local contest, but really? $2000 top prize? That ain't bad!

 
very nice! congratulations on the win. and yeah, i think the music had a lot to do with that. good job all around
 
Excellent job on that. I love the fact I used to live in SLC and remember all those locations the shots took place. For a small film fest thats a lot of dough!
 
Thanks for checking it out, guys! The writer-director's not on here so I'll let him know there's some more positive feedback on the ol' interwebs.

And Amir, doesn't it make SLC look good? Very modern, hip and urban feeling, I think. One funny thing, the director told me he originally planned a 1-day shoot for this. With all the set ups involved, shots from cars, trains - including interiors - and all that, I'm not surprised it ended up being a few hours a day for 5 days.
 
I'm just giving this a little bump to celebrate that it also just won "Utah Short Film of the Year" at the Utah Arts Festival this weekend. It was up against some pretty stiff competition with epic production value, including a student emmy award winner, but as far as I can guess, it won because in that tight 4.5 minutes it has a fully developed story that is memorable and easy for people connect to. Story story story!
 
Hey Gary, I was the composer and it was a paid gig (not a lot, but hey, it's an indie short). I was going to hassle the director for a cut of the prize, but right about the same time, he was accepted into AFI, so I figure he needs the money!

Great film. One of the few truly good shorts I've watched and I have no complaints either! Fantastic. Also, as a composer myself (primarily I direct but I score my films) I really appreciated your work in this, Randin. The score fit PERFECTLY and really made the emotion of the film click with me. It had just the right hint of serious and comedy. Great work.
