Make sure to choose HD.

Shot on the RED MX and the Sony FS100 w tilt shift.
I shot some of it with the FS100 myself. Did some boom work and helped out just about anywhere I could.

I was lucky enough to get a great Director and crew on board for this one. I was one of 8 writers who pitched scripts to two Directors.
Only 2 scripts were chosen and mine was one of them.

I found the lead actress and asked her if she wanted to audition for it. Luckily for us she did. She won best actress.
Justin R. Durban scored it for us as well. He nailed it. If there was a best score award, we would have won it as well.

In the end we won everything. Best Actor, Writer, Director & Film.

If you watch the other film (Cure) on the site you'll see that we were up against some big budget SFX films as well.
There were about 16 films in total.

Please check it out!

Thx

What a beautifully shot film and the subject matter is off the charts. So glad you were a part of this. As filmmakers we strive to get our stories out there, but when you can do something as powerful as this, you have to know you're blessed. I hope this really climbs up the ladder to get as much exposure as possible. Great job!

Great short and story! Very impactful. Personally I preferred Cure though - mostly because I'm a sucker for action films. Just down to personal preference, really, but that doesn't undermine your film as a great piece of work and a deserving winner!

Thanks, Malcolm. I appreciate that. The two films are completely different and so hard to compare.
Ours is a seriously well acted drama that pulls at the heart strings. There's is a visual action packed spectacle. Even some of the gunshots had lens flares. :)

Cure picked up 2 awards and really deserved them. One of them being Best SFX.
The only problem I had with it was that I didn't care for any of the characters. Didn't even get that the lead was married until the end so that didn't work for me.

Glad you enjoyed them both.

Thanks. We're going to take it offline soon and shop it around some festivals. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

You know how much I like Moments but i'll reiterate:

The "story told in reverse" concept is used beautifully because it's not a gimmick, it actually enhances the story.
I like damn near every script you send me, but this one in particular tackles such heavy subject matter that it
just blows me away that you wrote this. So excited for you that you even won the writing contest, and got your script directed.
But the fact that the short did justice to your writing, and you guys swept the awards... wow, this was a grand slam for you!
I love Moments. Havent watched the other one yet...

This was deep man, I really enjoyed this film A LOT!

From a technical point, Spot on. Shot beautifully, great score, excellent audio. I felt as she was right there talking to me. This is how all audio should be done. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the use of the tilt shift lens. It doesen't seem as it did a whole lot for the film.(to me anyways) Can you explain the Dp's reason behind the use of it. I just want to understand what his motive was. I may be missing something that a simple explaination could clear up for me.

I will pass this link on to others. great film!!

Thanks, Matt. Very kind words.

This one was a real pleasure to work on and I hope to do more films with full crews in the future.
I also seem to be getting more people hitting me up to shoot my scripts as a result of this so I'm also thrilled about that.

Cheers,

Thanks! I captured some audio myself but Howard did the mix. He did a really great job.

Myself and the Director did all the tilt shift camera work. As well as a little that you may not recognize as tilt shift. The DP did all the RED work including all the slowmo transitions from moment to moment that I had asked for. All I wanted was for each transition to indicate that we were moving back in time. Right to left slide did the trick. Director opted for slowmo.

I think the decision for the tilt shift was to lock in the facial reactions of the lead while blurring away everything else. Nothing else mattered to us but her. We wanted everyone to focus on how she felt and this was a way to do that. Hope that makes a little sense.

Thanks again,

ahh, I get it, now that makes perfect sense. Are you working on anything now?
Thanks.
I'm in the middle of a few things. I'm helping with another short that I wrote a while back. It's a comedy and a local director opted to take off my hands. It's currently in pre-production mode.

I'm toying with shooting another short I wrote myself. Almost all of it takes place in a walk-in closet. The problem is that I would need to have it built in order to pull off some of the shots I want. I suck at that so it's getting expensive.

I have a couple of features started (writing phase) and I really want to shoot the opening for one of them in order to use it as a marketing device to help fund it.

I need to get my act together and focus though.

Wow, good work, it got me good.
Cheers! :)

LOL I love it how dude was like "You're pregnant AND you have cancer. **** this!' I'm out!"

Awesome. lol

Cool short. Not a fan if VoiceOver, but it worked well enough here.

It looks good, good framing, good sound...

Only thing I daught about is having music from beginning till end....

LOL @ Brian. :D
I actually wrote it that he left just after she got pregnant. The Director decided to turn him into the most evil BF ever known.

Thanks, guys.

Thanks, Noel. Much appreciated.

Cheers,
