I have been reading these threads and it seems as if many can not edit AVCHD.
I have no problems at all, and I do not feel as if my computer is any better than others, so maybe we should try and figure out what is needed to make this work easily.
If your system can not view or edit AVCHD, then post the specs, maybe we can determine why.

MY SYSTEM :
Plays native AVCHD in Windows media player 11 full screen and even at 200%.
I can scrub, and jump forward and backward without issues.
When I am playing footage, my fans do power on full speed.
I can also play footage in Premiere CS4, and edit native 1080p AVCHD footage.
My system is a sony sz750 laptop with Nvidia 8400M GS dedicated video card with 256 megs ram. I have 4 gigs ram and a Core 2 DUO 8100 processor
I am running Windows XP service pack 3
I am running Core codec Professional as the default Decoder for AVCHD.
(Cost $14.95) yes fourteen dollars and 95 cents.
I am running a modified driver set for my video card
nVIDIA ForceWare X 179.44 drivers. As sony drivers do not support many advanced features of the Nvidia card.
I usually edit in Cineform, but have been editing direct AVCHD, recently to test that workflow.
Everything play real time no skips or delays, fast forward and rewinds instantly.
Here is a link to a 2D benchmark program called bit bit

You can test how many frames per second your video card can display.
I would think that anything AVERAGE above 280 frames per second OR BETTER should be able to do AVCHD.
