AVCHD high bitrate tests- MUD FREE footage

Kholi, can't wait to see what you come up with. I just shot a ton of stuff at night, up to ISO 1600 at f/1.4, at all ranges of tonality, and I'm not really noticing any fixed-pattern noise, and the gradient banding is just plain gone.

It's like a whole new camera. Almost every reservation I had, is now resolved!

I think a new camera deserves a new name. From now on, the GH1, shall be known as the GH13, in honor of Tester13!

I just did that same thing tonight, 1600 with a nikon at 1.4. The MJPEG file was 75Mbits and it looked good for 1600. The weird artifacts are less with this better codec. This sensor needed better codecs. I think that the old AVCHD was turning noise etc to forms of codec mud, that no longer happens. How awesome is this...

Here goes - some low light footage. ISO 1600, Nikon 50mm @ f/1.4, 1/50, 1080p24n "D" settings, "Smooth" mode without any changes. Enjoy my dog sniffing around for a place to use the bathroom, some flowers, a fence, and frogs croaking.

Ok, I've scoured this forum for the proper source for the A B C D E settings referenced all over the place. Guess I'm just dumb.. I can't locate the settings for these anywhere.
See the first post in this thread.

Jobless - great job (!) you've done updating that post with a full explanation. I'm just feeling my way into all this and something crystal clear like that is a great help (even though I think I've read every post since this all started!).

I did this test earlier today, sorry if there isn't more it started poring rain after the last shot. I can't believe the amount of detail that is coming out of this camera.

WOrPIG or anyone,

Plays nicely on vimeo. I downloaded it to really see what it's capable of and the mp4 file drops frames like crazy.

I'm assuming that my machine can't keep up. Kinda thought an i7 860 with a SSD drive could play it in real time....

Quick question: With the new 3.36 ptool, do you need to check "Video Bitrate Adjustment" AND "Video Bitrate Adjustment Simplified" or just check "Video Bitrate Adjustment Simplified" (with Overall Bitrate Adjustment and Limiting Bitrate Adjustment also checked)?

Edit: Also should I have Video Buffer off?

Yeah, had the same issue here on an 8-core MacPro. I transcoded it to prores and then it played back fine, and still looked great.

So, on the safe side, should I go with Video Bitrate Adjustment, Overall Bitrate Adjustment, and Limiting Bitrate Adjustment?
I'm a "normal" user that you mentioned in the first page and I want to use the settings below.
Thanks for your help.

______________UPDATE 12/06/2010_________________

If you shoot in 720 60p mode, D settings probably won’t work with high detailed scenes and camera will interrupt recoding after few seconds. For 720 MODE use the following settings that will work without problems:

Video bitrate adjustment 38000000
Overall bitrate adjustment 40000000
Limiting bitrate adjustment 42000000

For these settings avg. bitrate in 1080 MODE is 34.4 Mbps and for 720 34.5 Mbps.
There are no problems with recording of any kind either with 1080 or 720.
No MUD with this setting also.
I should say that these are stable settings and I would recommend them for normal users that want to shoot with 1080 and 720.

Use those three settings and you're good to go..

Unless Barry changed his settings, these seem to be the best settings that are going around. But i've heard that it will jam 720p settings. Too much data.

VIDEO BUFFER)..................................84.000.00
VIDEO BITRATE ADJUSTMENT)............60000000
OVERALL BITRATE ADJUSTMENT.........56000000
LIMITING BITRATE ADJUSTMENT.........60000000

Using these settings with class 4 toshiba i get choppy-artifact 1080 24p recording..the previous settings i had where everything was the same but the video buffer value was much less at 4000000 i had great picture ..is that because of card speed im getting the choppy clip using this setting? thanks!

Mjpeg 24p doesn't work yet. That's probably why it looks choppy. For right now (things change fast), if you want 24p you have to use avchd. To be sure we're talking about the same thing, do you see a jump every 5 frames when you step through. If so, that's the 30p mjpeg being crammed into a 24p mode and like I said, it doesn't work yet.

Billy, these settings were for avchd not mjpeg ..its just when i put the 8400000 value this happens .. at 4000000 the patch works good.

Wow, sorry. I thought I was in the other thread. So much going on here lately.

I haven't experienced any of the choppiness you're seeing. It has always either worked, given an error message about card speed, or froze the camera.
