Avatar - James Cameron Returns! (Spoilers in thread, obviously!)

Time to call Expedia and extend my vacation by a few days I guess.

$1800 to change one plane ticket to the same flights a few days later? Is Expedia out of their mind? Screw that.

It would be cheaper for me to just hang out in Seattle for 4 days and buy a new one-way ticket home on a web special.

... soo, who's in Seattle / Pac. NW?

I think even if you called someone that who didn't know what it was, it would still sound like an insult, so the linguists did their job well.

Saw 3D Avatar on the worlds largest IMAX screen last night at Darling Harbour here. 2.5hrs of wonderful entertainment.
A real standout was the sound. It matched the size of the image superbly. Great surround mix with giant subs in there, but ..

Don't put your son on the screen Mrs Worthington,
His voice is too wooden to move.
And one look at his bandy legs should prove
He hasn't got a chance.

In addition to which,
The son of a *****
Can neither sing nor dance.

Apologies to Noel Coward.

Cheers.

Funny stuff. I saw some obvious parallels to Aliens with Avatar, but even some on that list didn't come to mind on their own.

Still, I'll gladly take James Cameron rehashing some elements from Aliens instead of a lot of the films out there.

And even though these plot points were the same, the overall feeling, mood, and type of experience is different between both films.

So all the big summer films have been released and it doesn't look like any of them will come anywhere near close to dethroning Avatar's box office gross. The top grosser so far, Toy Story 3, has made 734 million worldwide, which means it has to make 2 billion more to knock Avatar off its perch. It's really quite remarkable the business that movie did. Even more staggering in retrospect. Although this summer seems unusually weak all around.
