Avatar - James Cameron Returns! (Spoilers in thread, obviously!)

The review guy's brilliant, but the Avatar review 'aint nothing like the Phantom Menace reviews... He's trying to do the same thing but his points are weak because the things he credits to his own elevated awareness should be obvious to everybody. He says the redneck hillbillies in the marine briefing were a subliminal message... subliminal?... the guys in the front row that we all looked at directly?

My problem with THIS review is that he explains the obvious... repeatedly. The Phantom Menace review is actually INSIGHTFUL...

My thoughts exactly. It's not very penetrating. Of his other reviews, the one that compares the best to The Phantom Menace is his Star Trek: Generations review.

Agreed, the phantom menace was more like a really well planned feature film than a review. And this last one is like something done in a rush. I'm sure that if he took the time to plan and compare this film with other and analyze it deeper he would come up with a better review.

congrants to Sad Max for that oscar (even if it wasn't given to you directly, all the art department made it possible)!

Thanks. Yes, having an Oscar(tm) winner on one's resume can be handy, even if the statue's not on your mantle...

You know, I had always rather liked Generations...until I watched his review of it. Now I don't think I can enjoy it much, at all...

Congrats on the gold dude Max.

Someone take the razor blades away from Mikko, we don't want another Avatar suicide on our hands!

Heh, yeah, that was bad luck for the media to run those articles based on one jokester's comment.

What makes them so sure they'll come back as Na'vi? Seems the odds are even they'll find themselves reincarnated as prawns a la District 9...

LOL

Well, Chamber, plus everyone that Chamber knows. He lives in this odd statistical bubble wherein everybody with whom he's acquainted hates the movie, big-time.

If it hits $2.7B I'll get off my ass and go see it. I guess. Maybe...

Are you serious? You have to see it in 3D in the theater. When it comes out on DVD you are going to miss the whole experience, it's not the same on DVD versus in 3D in the theater. Even if you get a 3D home TV, you won't get the same experience because your living room won't begin to compare to the theater space.
