Avatar - James Cameron Returns! (Spoilers in thread, obviously!)

the tv show ("Avatar: The Last Airbender") was from American co-creators and producers set-up at Nickelodeon. and the theatrical version ("The Last Airbender") dropped the "Avatar" portion of its title to avoid confusion and looks like this...

I know, I was kidding around. Heard all about it from the guy who green lit it a few years ago. I have followed the production of it.

yeah i went to see black dynamite this 13 year old behind me asked for 8 tickets to dear john please. LOL

The guy that tore up phantom menace tore up Avatar... sort of... his review ALMOST took the shine off of my experience... only because he made some good points about comparing/contrasting the beautiful "creatures" of Avatar to the garbage pail kids... or to an ordinary African tribe... His point was the movie would lose so much of it's appeal if it weren't for the BEAUTY of the lead "actress"... etc.

Well... as simple of a counterpoint as this is... SO WHAT? After agreeing with him and thinking about it to myself for a few days... I've realized what movie wouldn't suffer from unattractive characters? (this is not a challenge to name one, but rather realize many stars are in part stars because of appearance) How many movies DON'T invest in attractive on-screen presence? Welcome to freakin' show business.

No, it's not a brilliant observation that Avatar wouldn't have worked as a story centered around garbage pail kids because even garbage pail kids didn't work centered around garbage pail kids.

I wonder if the guy that thought that up surfs the net in search of fugly-girl porn.

Ha! Great 80's cheese...A music video directed in 88 by James Cameron for Bill Paxton's band. The song is pretty damn horrible. See if you can spot the familiar faces. One of them is nominated for an Oscar this year--

*shrug*

The people who get the work done derive their ego-boost from what they have accomplished, and the people who aren't doing the work get their ego-boost from harping on how the people who did the work, didn't do it right.

Seems to me.

James Cameron has always had a huge ego, even before he was famous. Watch anything on Terminator 1 that isn't a behind the scenes.

Linda Hamilton (who stupidly married him, after the fact.) Told James Cameron once, "You may direct puppets very well, but you don't direct people very well!" lol and stormed off to her trailer.

Are we still going on about his ego? I think Batutta put very well several pages ago...
Funny, but really, guys, what does it matter what size Jim's ego is? He could be the biggest a-hole on the planet. Makes no difference to whether his movies are good or not. I don't see why who James Cameron is or is not as a person is relevant. Elia Kazan was a communist black list snitch, an offense far worse than just being a jerk. Doesn't change my opinion of his films at all.

And as to what ex-wives have to say...
I can't address anything Linda Hamilton has to say on the subject. But I'd sure hope never to be publicly judged by what an actress ex-wife has to say, about me...

It should be noted that Linda Hamilton has also said some nice things about James since their divorce.

There's something to be said for Cameron's ego, control and drive.

Look at his films. The man is a genius filmmaker.

The BTS on the Aliens disc has some great footy of him going off. He knows what he wants and has little patience for people when he works; I know this feeling well.

biggest truth in the world!

A big ego doesn't mean he's a horrible person. Just shows his confidence. However, I was merely pointing to the fact that he didn't gain an ego because of Titanic or Terminator or Avatar. He's always had it. THATS HOW HE IS. He's always been like that. If you don't like that don't work for him. But all of the guys movies are great.

It makes you wonder how we'd look at older filmmakers that weren't around when all the BTS content and internet were around. Who knows what the older guys from decades ago were like?

I've worked with people who have first-hand horror stories about Alfred Hitchcock...

...but I suspect that Hitchcock appreciated and promoted the various horror stories told, about him...

Interesting to note that Kathryn Bigelow is the lead female bounty hunter in the video...

She's a gorgeous and talented woman...Cameron must have an ego to let that one go. I'd be content just being her man-whore for the rest of my life.
