now this is just too much. People are becoming depressed and having suicidal thoughts after seeing avatar. W THE F!!!
I guess pandora is just too real. society.....boy I tell ya.

I have ZERO sympathy for these people. Seriously WTF? Talk about obsessive stupidity. And then they have company from the other obsessively stupid idiots out there so they feel that it's okay to be a *moron? Argh!!! People are so bloody stupid sometimes...

\\* typo cleared right up. My apologies to the mormons.

That's some really good PR for Avatar, those that haven't seen it will want to see what it's all about now.

Maybe Luis and Stephen should join thier board to enlighten them about Translymania.

*shrug* get fitted for a loincloth, learn to speak Yanomami, develop a taste for kasili and hop a flight to Venezuala.

I doubt that most of these people would actually enjoy living in a neolithic society, no matter how pretty the surrounding scenery.

Although it's a nice illustration of how people can construct a neurotic fantasy around, well, almost anything.

hell I know I'm monitoring Stephen closely for when he keels over and dies spontaneously as a result of seeing Transylmania... should be any day now...

I'd be willing to bet that people are putting together a practicable Na'vi religion, right this minute.

Not necessarily a bad thing, really. As religions go it would probably be a fairly harmless one.

I'd rather get infected with rhinovirus, than Ebola.

'Harmless' is relative when you're talking about certain kinds of pathogens.

All you people hatin' on Transylmania crack me up. Didn't have the sack to suffer through it in theaters, but will gladly throw stones at the Hillenbrand's glass house after the fact.

You disgust me.

And Puck, if anything's going to kill me, it's going to be seeing and reviewing 365 fims in 365 days for my blog (filmeveryday.com). In fact, watching Alvin & The Chipmunks 2 and Antichrist back-to-back was just about enough to make me spork my eyes out.

But what doesn't kill me makes me stronger.

You suffered through it so we wouldn't have to. Mucho kudos and thanks to you.

Need to borrow a spork? I got one right here.

But what doesn't kill me makes me stronger.

Either that or dulls your brain... no braincells left for you. You'll keel over soon enough...

People, let's not have this discussion stray into uncomfortable territory. Let's keep it on topic…

Now, about Transylmania…

I'll second that...

Ditto.

So back to Avatar and the awesomeness of it? I still have to drag my wife to see it, so I gotta find an IMAX in Toronto (got my passport so I'm free to travel now). This will be the third time for me and I'm looking forward to revisiting the world of the Na'vi... I must admit, it really was quite cool.

I'd recommend taking a look around the forum in question .. the article (of course) tends to sensationalize a bit.

It's also apparently been a notable motivation tool for many. I'll bet Al Gore is thinking to himself "darn, why didn't I try that approach?".

In one way it speaks highly of the creativeness of Cameron's ideas and the ability to imagine - and then portray - a place that appeals as a utopia for so many. Then again, with $1.4B (and climbing) in box office sales; even your "extreme minorities" are going to be quite sizable.

Don't judge others too harshly and then put them down. Remember that DVXuser is a similar online community with our own obsessions. DVXuser's policy of courteousness includes those beyond our own forum, so keep it polite folks.

Mikko, there's politeness and understanding, but it's going beyond fandom. It won;t be long before some idiot gets it into his/her head to commit suicide while watching this film in the throes of some religious ecstasy. I'd hate to see something like that happen and kill the buzz, but people sometimes take things too far. That's the part I'm "judging".

Our obsessions here on DVXUser don't hurt anyone except actors anyway and they're fast to recover.
