GH2 Auto focus clarification in GH2

I've really been trying to read the manual and search this forum before posting, but I can't seem to get a clarification on this question. I read one post somewhere that said all of the physical switches on the GH2 as they pertain to auto focus are only for the still picture mode - that if you have Auto focus continuous switched to on in the menu, under the film mode, that that will override the switches on the camera. Does that mean if I switch the camera switch to MF and if it is still in AFC in the menu, that it will still be in auto focus and still hunt and peck in video mode? Thanks for the help.

Could someone please clarify a bit more the differences between the auto-focus settings on the camera and in the menus? what are the differences? which pertain to video only and which to stills? For example, in video, i always get a message "Switch to AFS"...

If someone could give a little summary, it would be a great help...as we know, the manual is useless.

Thanks.

The manual is only useless if you don't read it.

Correction: The manual AND dan.carter's comments are useless...

Why bother? I'm not allowed to be confused by something i read in the manual and seek clarification here??

Seriously dan.carter. who are you saving?

That's why have a forum... don't be intimidated, just ask your question and a nice person will probably answer...

Continuous Autofocus will be disengaged when you switch the dial to MF mode.

AFC and AFS positions while in video mode do exactly the same thing, it would have been nice if they made them different. I still think they should allow both manual focusing and halfshutter/touchscreen focus simultaneously while in the same mode, it would make the GH2 that much more useful.

manual is pretty much useless unless you wanna learn about still settings. i would rather read the forum than wasting my time for unorganized and confusing manual.

so if manual was good enough then maybe u guys can tell me why we have 100's of posts and 1000's of questions and comments about gh2 video settings ?

You missed the point there. Of course things aren't always clear even in the best of circumstances. But we should all make an effort to educate ourself as much as possible.

You commented in your 3 post that you're not interested in reading the source, but implied that you'd rather benefit from other people's doing just that.

So yes, it is perfectly acceptable to ask questions and many people here are more than happy to share their knowledge. In thiscase, try and be a little more circumspect with your attitude, especially as a new poster, otherwise how are you going to contribute to the discussion?

I agree the manual isn't very clear/useful. I end up having to try things myself before I understand how it works, and even then some things are still a mystery.

For example, I've had the AF+MF setting set to "ON" since I got the camera a couple weeks ago. Sometimes I can make Manual focus adjustments after doing a shutter focus, sometimes not. The camera is new and I'm constantly changing settings, but still haven't figured out what causes the AF+MF setting to work and sometimes not. When it's not working I just have to set the dial to MF.

stoneinapond;

i assumed that you read the manual so you can clearly see that manual covers mostly still settings (at the end its a dslr ) you can also see that manual is unorganized, confusing and lack of information about video settings; specially when it comes to auto focus functions tracking and manual focus settings for video which is pretty important features for most of us. so if i cant even learn basic information from the manual why would i read it when i need it. i rather go online and learn from the people and play with it
