Audio solution cheap for Canon DSLRs

Just an FYI... Today I found that Guitar Center has Tascam DR-07 w/2gig sd card for $49 bucks, no reason to mess with built in crappy audio.

and NO i dont work for GC, just thought I'd share, don't know how long the sale is, but the price is on their internet site, the stores still show it at $99, however they will match their own web site so you can get instant satisfaction.

Website says out of stock, due back 2/9- I'd assume the sale would last at least until then, but it doesn't seem to imply that this is a limited time sale either so who knows!

Pretty good price, good to have around. Nice find, thanks!
Still, don't forget that we'll have to mess with syncing up in post (which for most of what I do isn't worth it compared to using a wireless lav with Magic Lantern).

I might just pick one of these up for fun, but until there is a way to output a video file with the audio and video in sync, this will likely never become a regular replacement for my workflow. Plural Eyes isn't an option for me because I'm not stuck to one NLE (switch between Vegas and Premiere depending on the project, or others if working on an external project) and if I have to share raw footage with another editor, they usually prefer one file as well.

Dishe, in Vegas it takes about 5 seconds to match audio to video, manually.

I guess it depends on amount of files you work on and their length, on how tedious it is to line up. Plural or Dual eyes is a nice tool , but not really "Necessary".

IMHO I would rather work with separate audio than ML and crappy preamps, but that's just me. then again I happen to have a field mixer so its easier for me to be that way. (wont argue the built in pre's anymore)

at that price they're practically giving them away. Just ordered one although I don't really need it :)
I'll see how it compares to my H1

Yes, I agree that its relatively easy to line up, and I tend to do that already when working with multiple camera angles. But, I tend to do a lot of work that involves a lot of unplanned shots and little clips, and its very difficult and annoying to sync up all the audio, not to mention start/stop the external player each time unless you want to just let it run. But then you have one big audio file to cut up and line up with your video clips... the whole thing just seems like a major PITA unless you are working with very carefully planned out shots such as an indie film that actually sticks to a script and storyboard.

Thanks for not arguing the preamps anymore. For docu style shots, they really are more than good enough IMO, and we already know where we stand on this. :)

Well everyone has a different need and workflow. and only the individual knows whats best for them.

for that price tho... its hard to pass up, especially for the folks making shorts and movie style shoots where audio is more critical.

Grabbed one @ the local GC.. Gave me a hard time saying that I needed to buy it online, but they gave in since I bought the extended warranty for $16.. Still under the retail price.. Going to play with it and see how my audio does :D

Haha- It was a price mistake! Look at the page now!

Someone failed at data entry and apparently forgot to put the first digit of the $149 price!!!

Congrats to everyone who took advantage of the price! That's definitely a steal... if I had known it was a price mistake and not just a sale, I probably would have been more vigilant about trying to find a Guitar Center nearby to shop at!

Either way, deal is dead now.
