Audio question - on camera/external mics

Hello

I appologize up front for what is probably a dumb question. I am new to the A1 and have a question concering audio. Is it possible to use the built-in mic and also a wireless lavalier mic at the same time? I will be shooting weddings from church balcony. If this is possible what are the menu settings? If not, then what is the recommended equipment and settings for the Xh-a1 to capture the wedding vows while recording "room" audio from the church.

Thanks

Russ

The only major gripe I have with the A1, Russ, is its inability to split audio. Consequently, at least for your situation, I suggest putting a boom on the vows so you record the best audio you can on that, then either go boom or onboard for ambient to lay under the vows in post.

There may be another workaround, but it's not coming to me.

Agwah, is my understanding correct that, even when using two mics simultaneously, you cannot record the separate channels at different levels? In other words, the A1 automatically sets the level the same for both channels.

No. When using two external microphones, you can control the volume on both channels independently.

Hmm. One of the things most HVXers dislike about the A1 is that it can't split the same mic to both channels, with one hotter than the other, as a safety net against clipping.

However, with what you're saying, would it be possible to use a Y-splitter to get the same mic into both channels at different levels?
