I am trying to setup my atr55 on my 100b but the sound doesn't seem to be recording I have the xlr plug into the channel 1. The channel 1 plug is set to "mic." and the channel 1 is set to on. It it sounds very quiet in playback. And since i can't even figure that out it is hard for me to figure out when I need to use the regular function on the mic and when to set it to tele. Any help please thank you. I just bought the dvx100b. Does anyone know what the hell the AGC display means on the lcd when it's in auto mode. I was trying to figure out what adjustment the auto mode makes to figure out how to manipulate the camera myself more effectively but the user manual is certainly no help.

Well, first of all, by plugging in your mic to input one means your only going to be getting audio on the left channel. If you want your audio to come into both channels, plug in your mic to input 2 and move both channels to input 2. As far as the level of your audio...is your mic running off a battery? Does it need phantom power? If it takes phantom power, go ahead and switch the input to phantom on. Also, are you boosting the levels by using the dials underneath the lcd? The dvx does not adjust levels automatically.

AGC stands for Auto Gain Control. What that is, is when set to auto mode, the camera will determine if and when using gain is neccesary and based upon your menu settings, it will apply gain up to the maximum amount you specify when it deems neccesary.

Hey, thewill,
first off, I am not sure if I'd bother trying to get that mic working on the DVX100b. That mic / cam combo seems a complete mismatch, and I'd be surprised if you'd get better audio with it, as opposed to just running the on-board mics.
It seems like you're running a Ferrari (the DVX100b), but when you open the bonnet, you've got two aging squirrels on a treadmill powering the car's drivetrain! :)

For only [relatively] little money, you can get a phantom powered mic (the ATR55 isn't), already with the correct connection (the ATR55 hasn't). Look in the audio section for microphone recommendations. An AT835b is about $250, an Oktava Mk-012 with hyper cap and wind protection is about $300, and an AT4073a is about $500.

haha wow, thats the last time i try to help without paying more attention to what i thought i saw. I didn't even notice that, that mic. isnt a direct xlr.

it's called the atr-55 because it costs $55! Onboard mic is better. Also, if you decide you want to use the atr anyway, never set it on tele. The quality goes down sooo much if you do.
