Attention Canadian AF-100 Enthusiasts

I tried phoning Cinequip but Jonathan is off for a week and the lady I spoke to didn't know what the AF100 was. She gave me someone else's cell number who didn't pick up :S

Mike (Oconnor?) is filling in or you could try Robert Johnston - But I spoke with Mike yesterday and he's sticking to the late Feb to mid-March timeline. Wouldn't refund my deposit, so I missed out on the available units from Vistek.

I guess the order to outfit my two new kitchen studios with gear will end up somewhere else...

And so it should.

I don't understand the whole "non-refundable deposit" nonsense on cameras that are selling like hotcakes. If a sale disappears from a much-delayed pre-order, it doesn't seem very hard to find a replacement buyer when the unit arrives.

For real. Maybe you can tell those guys to apply your deposits against something else that you'd need to buy (a light or tripod or whatever)...

weighing my options, but it looks like any cameras that came into other dealers here this week - have flown out the door.

guess I just got on the wrong horse…

Thats a real shame. I figured they'd be on top of things (being associated with WFW), but it seems they have a very small staff, who although are friendly and helpful, are not there all the time and hard to contact by email.

I wish we had a B&H or an Abel Cine Tech here in Canada :( Vistek could use some competition.

Well I talked to a nice guy at cinequip named Michael and he said we'll probably get them in a week or two. Turns out they didn't put their order in to Panasonic as early as other retailers. But they will be coming soon, no sense getting mad at the retailer :)

Well they took my money back in October… before other retailers in the city had their pre-order lists. So If they didn't get their order 'in' then that's just another link in their lousy customer service.

Yes they may be polite on the phone - but if indeed they didn't get their order in they screwed up with my money in their pocket.

Broke down and bought one from B&H with a second still on order from Cinequip. This will be a great tool:

nice setup there, G. I am waiting to get my AF until there is a better eos adapter available. I'm glad I wasn't in a hurry after hearing some of these stories.

Sure looks 'PRO" all fitted up like that with PL cine glass and accesories..

Great to see a decent heavy head in use also.

Do you recommend that on board? What is it?

Paying clients like to see some sizzle - but I think that this will be very useable stripped down with a lighter lens. Love my O'Connor 50 head, but it's way to heavy to drag around outside the studio on small crew jobs.

The on board is the SmallHD. I like it, super easy not a lot of extras, it does what it's supposed to do and it's light. It has two focus modes, and a false colour exposure HDSDI throughput; I know that the TVLogic is (according to some on the board) made of fairy dust and rainbows, but sometimes I just want simple with great picture and no weight.

Well I really hope Cinequip gets em in before February Freeze this tuesday. I'm going and I hope to be able to get mine this week - it would make sense for them to have a demo unit at their booth.

Agreed... and in this regard...pull the handle strap off the right side of the camera. Takes the" Cam-Corder" look away instantly ( if you have not already done so)

That's one of the first things I did - and then mounted a battery in that spot.

heavyG, update from Panny and Cinequip - camera's should be here in a week or so. Talked to them both in person at Feb Freeze. Also apparently buying out of country means no warranty :S You can purchase a warranty here in Canada separately but it will cost you.

Barry's book will also be available from Panasonic dealers in Canada in a week hopefully.

Glad to hear it.

As for US sales (or other out-of-country purchases) I think you do get a warranty, but you need to send it back to that country for service (perhaps.) I could be wrong of course.

I finally signed up for my "3 year" warranty tonight after the director/dop/camera op/good friend joked about the sticker still on the LCD. There was an option to share one's information with global panasonic service centres for global service options whatever that means.

Here's a poor picture of the camera at rest from some production stills of tonight's shoot:

Not sure about the af100, but when I bought my HMC150 from Full Compass in the US, I was able to register the camera to a Canadian address. In fact, the warranty card in the box was a Canadian/American card.
