Attention Canadian AF-100 Enthusiasts

I have no info for our Canadian brothers who are waiting patiently, but -- for perspective, let's keep in mind that it's only the 12th of January. If you wanted to see a real nightmare, look back on the HVX200 launch. People waited about four months before they could actually, finally get their cameras and there was adequate supply such that someone could have a reasonable expectation of ordering one and receiving it in short order. The AF100 has followed the same rollout schedule date-wise, but there have been many, many more cameras produced in the first month than there were of the HVX200. It doesn't help anyone right now who needs it now, but I do think we're all in for a much shorter wait than we faced back in 2006 during the HVX craze.

Thanks Barry.

I think it's just managing expectations. I pre-ordered in early October. It's a little bit of a tough pill to swallow when people were able to get their hands on cameras who ordered much later (albeit in a different country); in my own case I'm kicking myself because I was offered a US camera (which would have come with your book!) on December 31st by the stellar crew @ Tapeworks Texas. I told them no thanks, I was first on the list at a Montreal dealer.

I do think most of us are more concerned with the lack of any concrete news from Panasonic Canada. It's all just hints, allegations and things left unsaid at this point which has made us (clearly only some - like me) a little manic. If they could only tell us what's going on deep in the recesses of their operation with our little cameras (even if it was "you won't get them until March") we'd be more inclined to just shut up and deal. It's the "not knowing" that's one the most difficult things to manage mentally.

You know, just learning to deal with what are, in the grand scheme of things, very minor inconveniences. ;)

Plus all my AF100 support accessories, batteries, case, etc. etc. are sad here without something to latch onto. I've had some IDX batteries charged for the non-existant camera since January 3rd.

Ok everyone, here is the update from the horses mouth. Got a call from Vistek. Roll out date is Feb 25th as per Panasonic

I asked my dealer for clarification as well. Feb 25th puts us close to the two month mark and we have a two scheduled productions in February that we believed would be fine with a camera system we were told would arrive Dec. 27th (by our dealer.)

The issue for us is that once February goes by and we're editing throughout March and possibly April, if we have to rent, there's no reason to have a camera sitting around doing very little. I really hope February 25th isn't the case...

I hope not either but upon me asking "why". I was told by my contact there that it's not just panasonic. Even some Canon cameras come in late. It's a Canadian thing.

Just got a sideways 'confirmation' of a mid to late Feb delivery for Canada - with total (official) shipped units to Canada of 8-10 to this point in time.

Oh well - still making money with the gear I have, and since everybody else here is in the same-ish boat; it's not a huge deal.

Wow heavyG, i really hope that is not the case. Are you able to say who your source is? For me its a big deal mainly because i have no camera and have school projects that would be great on this. And it is more so the fact of a company neglecting their allocation to canadian customers, that doesnt sit right for me. I hope it is sooner than later. Thanks for sharing.

Not going to out them at this point (I was going to make a Watergate reference - but that may be lost on most) however the source is in the supply chain.

I ordered from Cinequip Whites here in Toronto, and they are having a tradeshow of sorts in early Feb at Pinewood Studios They are hoping to have these cameras in house to show off...
I guess there is still hope?

Oh heavyG when did you order from Cinequip? I put my preorder in early december or late november and Jonathan said there was about 10 cameras they were ordering. I really hope they get here before the end of Feb. I'd love to do behind the scenes footage of our studio drama with it.

I put in a pre-order (with deposit) for two on October 20.

Our dealer stepped up and is "renting" us a camera at no cost for the month of February while we wait to take delivery of an AF100. Good enough.

We have order 2 of the them for Vancouver and British Columbia market,
but our mounting system was with the DenzAdapter54. Not cheap but built very well.
Lenses are the Optimo 16-40mm and the 30-80mm both with a T2.8.
After hearing from Dp's, 1st Ac's likes,dislikes about Canon 5d,etc.
Also a top plate bracket to mount on board monitors as well.

Cameras will rent for $ 275 body.
Pl Adaptor 35.00

Zeiss Primes T1.3 also will work well with this camera.

Not yet - apparently Vistek here in Toronto got some as well - So I have to think that Cinequip Whites (were I ordered) will have them today or tomorrow as well.

AF100s are trickling into Canada in low numbers

We received a very small shipment yesterday, which puts a small dent into the pre-orders. So they are shipping, but in small numbers. A bigger shipment is due towards the end of February, so that should clear up a lot of the back-orders.
