And there is so, so, so much more than just that.It would also depend on whether the Shogun has sufficient processing power to deal with the added overhead of 12 bit raw... There's a fair bit more to deal with, without even considering HFR
He's talking about HDMI output and says "FS700, I believe can do that". And as far as I know the FS700 can't output 4K over hdmi. But then he talks about the SDI as well... Will be interesting to see what comes of this.Take a look at this video. The Atomos guy says FS700 so it looks like it will work.
Well, as far as we know, the Shogun might just be able to record the HD 8bit 420 from the FS700.So the pertinent question for FS700 owners, given the projected price point, functionality and lack of subscription codec pricing of the SHOGUN...is whether Convergent will be compete to keep a measure of market share. I'd like to see Convergent drop the price of the 7Q, drop their subscription codec pricing, and add features to give consumers more choices. Clearly, other companies (SmallHD/Marshall/AJA) will be bring recorder/monitors to market. It would be good if Convergent could leverage what they've already done to stay abreast of where the market is moving. Mitch ...are you listening?
Far from sure that Sony will let them access the raw stream. Unless you've heard something about that?
I'm not sure I understand why Sony would need to "let" them have access. If it's coming out the sdi port, can't you record it?
We will have a path to allow Odyssey7Q recording of 4K from an HDMI source. Can't be more specific at this time as we are still determining what will be the solution.I want to get a GH4 but I don't want to get the YAGH inerface which costs more than the GH4 body itself. When I heard that Sony had contacted Atomos about creating a recorder for their A7S my thoughts immediately went to my FS700. If Sony asked Atomos to work with the A7S why not the FS700...The perfect solution for me would be a recorder that can record full RAW data from both the FS700 and the GH4 (without using the YAGH).
I am pretty sure Atomos would be making a much bigger deal out of the Shogun release if it could extract the full RAW signal from the FS700. Even if the Shogun eventually does, it's does not look as if it will be as powerful as the Odyssey (2K high frame rates...etc). Still it would be nice to have some options for the FS700.
Mitch, any chance you guys are going to release an HDMI solultion for the Odyssey that will allow us to extract RAW signal from the GH4 without using the YAGH?
The Sony FS700 RAW signal is not a standard video feed and without cooperation from Sony one cannot simply record it. Convergent esign has a lonng history with Sony and secured permission from Sony after discussions over a long period. While we were allowed to capture and convert the 2K RAW signal at the announcement of the Odyssey7Q, it was nearly a year later that Sony agreed to also let us use the 4K RAW signal. Similarly, the RAW signals from Canon and ARRI must be allowed from the respected companies.I'm not sure I understand why Sony would need to "let" them have access. If it's coming out the sdi port, can't you record it?
If I plug it in to a Black Magic atem switcher do I have to ask Sony?
