ATOMOS SHOGUN | Will it be compatible with the FS700??????

They'll need a licence from Sony to do it. However CD may have an exclusivity deal with Sony for recording the FS700 RAW.

Considering Atamos were apparently asked by Sony to market the Shogun as the solution for the A7s they should be on quite good standings with Sony. So unless CD has an exclusive deal (which I doubt) they should get it to work.

It it will never be as powerful as the 7Q though as it only does 120fps in HD. But... It would be nice if it could access the FS700's 4K output to record ProRes to the 2x1tb raided $99 drives Atomos will sell for it. I would love to have that option.

It would also depend on whether the Shogun has sufficient processing power to deal with the added overhead of 12 bit raw... There's a fair bit more to deal with, without even considering HFR

I'm not the biggest fan of Atomos recorders. Being a Ninja 2 owner, it's never faulted me on the recording front but I just don't like the functionality of their OS, or the implementation of their exposure/focus tools. I could go on, I'll just say, I'm not compelled to use it. Hence, I'm saving frantically for the O7Q, as I believe CD offer a far superior product to any Atomos recorder, on many levels.

Hey Mitch, do Convergent Design have any plans to update the O7Q's HDMI to 2.0 specs in 2014 to accommodate the 4k signals from the A7S/GH4?

Take a look at this video. The Atomos guy says FS700 so it looks like it will work.
He's talking about HDMI output and says "FS700, I believe can do that". And as far as I know the FS700 can't output 4K over hdmi. But then he talks about the SDI as well... Will be interesting to see what comes of this.
Im sure the 7Q will be a better/more versatile solution but nice if alternatives start appearing on the market!

So the pertinent question for FS700 owners, given the projected price point, functionality and lack of subscription codec pricing of the SHOGUN...is whether Convergent will be compete to keep a measure of market share. I'd like to see Convergent drop the price of the 7Q, drop their subscription codec pricing, and add features to give consumers more choices. Clearly, other companies (SmallHD/Marshall/AJA) will be bring recorder/monitors to market. It would be good if Convergent could leverage what they've already done to stay abreast of where the market is moving. Mitch ...are you listening?

it may sound strange but I don't care less about the price than about the delay (Q4 2013) of promised features. Also with a lot of backorders the price does seem overrated.

Well, as far as we know, the Shogun might just be able to record the HD 8bit 420 from the FS700.
Far from sure that Sony will let them access the raw stream. Unless you've heard something about that?

The price of their 7Q and fs700 option are already EXTREMELY reasonable considering the quality difference. The only thing that needs a price drop is their solid state media. C'mon Mitch, SSD's(even on the ultra premium end) have come down massively in price over the last 2-3 years, it's about time for CD and others to do the same.

I want to get a GH4 but I don't want to get the YAGH inerface which costs more than the GH4 body itself. When I heard that Sony had contacted Atomos about creating a recorder for their A7S my thoughts immediately went to my FS700. If Sony asked Atomos to work with the A7S why not the FS700...The perfect solution for me would be a recorder that can record full RAW data from both the FS700 and the GH4 (without using the YAGH).

I am pretty sure Atomos would be making a much bigger deal out of the Shogun release if it could extract the full RAW signal from the FS700. Even if the Shogun eventually does, it's does not look as if it will be as powerful as the Odyssey (2K high frame rates...etc). Still it would be nice to have some options for the FS700.

Mitch, any chance you guys are going to release an HDMI solultion for the Odyssey that will allow us to extract RAW signal from the GH4 without using the YAGH?

I'm not sure I understand why Sony would need to "let" them have access. If it's coming out the sdi port, can't you record it?

If I plug it in to a Black Magic atem switcher do I have to ask Sony?

it's already possible e.g. with the Atomos Blade but it's only 8bit and ProRes (HQ) with maximum 30p The questions is whether Atomos will make a deal with Sony to capture the RAW signal and record it as RAW or convert it to a popular codec.

We will have a path to allow Odyssey7Q recording of 4K from an HDMI source. Can't be more specific at this time as we are still determining what will be the solution.

The Sony FS700 RAW signal is not a standard video feed and without cooperation from Sony one cannot simply record it. Convergent esign has a lonng history with Sony and secured permission from Sony after discussions over a long period. While we were allowed to capture and convert the 2K RAW signal at the announcement of the Odyssey7Q, it was nearly a year later that Sony agreed to also let us use the 4K RAW signal. Similarly, the RAW signals from Canon and ARRI must be allowed from the respected companies.

I cannot speak for Atomos on this matter.
