C100: Atomos recorder with C200

Can someone help me understand which atomos recorder is best suited to the specs of the c200? I've been trying to compare and understand all the options and variables of each but I'm not positive. Eg. Is there any benefit to using the Shogun nferno VS Shogun Flame given the specs of the C200. I understand the Inferno can do 4K60 but that isn't a big deal for me. More interested in all the other specs.

Anything to help me understand better would be appreciated. Thanks!

The killer limitation seems to be hdmi 4k is 8bit only,
for 1080p its 10 bit but only up to 60p

So it seems that for 120p your stuck with mp4 4:2:0 8bit
for 1080p your golden with any atomos ninja flame, inferno, assassin that records up to 60p and they all record at least up to 4k 30p

for higher quality 4k your probably better of recording rawlite + transcoding and recording proxy on the sd cards

The C200's SDI is limited to HD, so there is no point investing in one of the SDI recorders unless you would like to go all out and just get the top-of-the-line (on camera) Shogun Inferno and be covered to use it with other cameras in the future.

The HDMI-only options...

Ninja Inferno = 4K/60p

Ninja Flame = 4K/30p

I thought so.

I just so happen to be about a day away from buying a new monitor and have been considering the Shogun Flame and getting the recorder as a bonus. Just want to make sure I'll be buying as future proof as possible since it's definitely going to be a 7" monitor.

So the HdMI on the c200 cant output 4k 10bit 422?
Kind of stupid we are limited to 10bit HD only. Wonder how good the 2k proxies are that the sd card slots record while also recording the 4k raw lite.

4k is 8bit only. It will be months before any one knows how good the 2k proxies will be and even longer to know if the XF-avc codec is any better than what the mp4 codec offers. The only way to get a strong codec from the camera now is use the sdi (or hdmi) out to a recorder and you can get 10 bit 422 in hd. You only get 4k in 8 bit no matter whether it is mp4 or raw.

Canon’s spec sheets state that a 10 bit, 4:2:2, 2k image can be piped out over the SDI port of the C200, but it is a RAW image. Anyone know if the Atomos can debayer the Canon C200’s Raw feed and record this way? The only debayered image from the SDI feed from the C200 is either a 10 bit 4:2:2 1080p image or a 4k 4:2:2 8 bit image. If one of these recorders could deal with Canon Raw, getting a 2k, 10 bit, 4:2:2 image out of the C200 is possible, which helps a great deal in securing that middle codec all of us C200 owners want. A 2k image will uprez to 4k nicely in post.

Well, you can't output raw on the C200. But when raw recorded internally, you get 4K at 10bit (at 60p) and 12bit (at 24,25 and 30p)

Exactly. The C200 recording internally to CFast cards records 4K raw 12bit (up to 30P) and 10bit (up to 60p). This is a 10bit (and even 12bit) 4K camera, but only when recording internally. An external recorder will never get the quality that the internal raw can capture on CFast cards.
