F35: As good as the original Sony F35 but this cam shoots in 4K

I'm not their tech support but what I had to do was to manually copy the plugin to the corresponding folder in my ae cs4 and done.

Thank you for your hint.

The installer copied the plugin to CS5 folder only.
So I copied it to CS6 folder and it starts working.

Hi Mitch!
Now that you're around here... the CD website seems down and I cannot submit a ticket.
I got a few shots like this when recording 4K from an a7rII. Do you think they can be fixed?

Well that's not good.

Please DM me with you direct contact info so that we can address this with you.

Super Resolution is a step ahead from the stock option "Detail Preserve Upscale" in AE. It does a great job at keeping the grain size equivalent to the pixel, with no added sharpening (unlike detail preserve upscale)

In certain shots the results are obviously superior... ie. Small text on buildings, underexposed areas, telephone lines, etc
While other less detail rich shots are a little more challenging to see for an average viewer on a 1080 screen .

Here are a quick few tests with the trial version. Definitely a great purchase for $50 :)

Here are downloadable 4K stills

Now my question is...
Which would yield superior results... Apply before grading or after?
Thoughts?

You didn't like my 4K videos?

I mean like good files and not youtube. I also can't watch youtube in 4K my monitor is HD. I need to watch on TV and for this I need file. Youtube compression is also horrible. Worried this program will mess F35 awesome motion cadence.

I think SuperRes should be put at the last of post chain especially the plugin processes at 8bit only.

For it have to essentially include pattern tracking, low contrast frames will not favored, if not a case you like to stabilize upres frames.

I did a fast test in Photoshop, and I'm pretty sure I can recover this footage for you. To verify, I'd need a sample of multiple consecutive frames.

Dude F23 looks pretty dope! Is that the 6-24 digizoom?

I got it and messed with it. I do like how it handles the grain size. That was a real pleasant surprise. I tested it on footage that was both sharp (Nikon AIS lenses stopped down) and vintage (Zeiss 10-100 T2 T* MkII Vario-Sonnar cine zoom at T2.8) and it maintained the character of each bit of footage. On my previous F35 footage and my recent D16 footage I did not see any degradation of the motion cadence (something that both cameras are excellent at).

Most likely the way I'll use it will be to apply it to a timeline in Premiere at the end of an edit once I've round tripped the edit and got final graded picture in the timeline. I don't see myself using it on a shot by shot basis during color grading at all. Too expensive to bother.

For internet delivery I think using this makes a ton of sense. For the most part I've found that 4k footage on Youtube viewed at HD res looks much better than HD native footage. Forcing YT to do their evil mudging dark compression magic on higher res footage means I can finally get closer to what I always intended an audience to see in HD from the start.

But this is indeed a nice find. Funny thing is I downloaded their demo over a year ago, but when I tried to install it my anti-virus software spit up a warning, so I figured "Nope, not gonna risk it.". So I never even got it installed to mess with it back then. Go figure...

Looks nice. There are many scaling algorithms, the fractal based ones add detail (there's a TVIScale in nuke for years which does this, but rarely gets used). Antimatter from Dark Energy did some nice scaling too and i think it was also temporal. It's nice to scale up, treat the image and scale back down. Can be useful for increasing perceived bit depth of footage as well dealing with noise.

There's a bunch of fun small utilities out there. Mercalli which is the oddest UI but is one of the only products i'm aware that will map the rolling shutter of a sensor and unwarp it - in some situations it does an amazing job.

It's a great find, something to use at the end of the pipeline before submission to Netflix as 4K source :)

Funny thread though!

cheers
Paul

If anyone is serious about shooting 4K with the F35 you may want to see if the people at personal-view can hack into it ;) of course it may also brick your camera doing so...

If they had a OS X version, I'd definitely get it. I'm very interested in how it handles quicker motion – most sharpeners I've played with show weakness when faster movements occur (both subject and camera motion).
