Arrested Development Music Video Shot on Canon 7D

A couple of weeks ago my production company (Pony Ghost) was commissioned to shoot a music video for the hip hop / r&b group Arrested Development entirely on the Canon 7D. The video was released online tonight, and has a television broadcast premier in Japan in November.

I've lurked these forums quite a bit, and know there's been interest in seeing more professionally produced content with the 7D. Check it out!

Here are links to the video on youtube and vimeo:

Thanks for the feedback!

In answer to Chance White: we used the Canon L series 17 - 35mm f/2.8, 24 - 105 f/4, 70 - 200 f/2.8 and the Canon 50mm f/1.4.

cl516, yes, they have a whole new album coming out soon in the US. This song in particular is a Japanese single, and as far I know will not appear on the US release.

Nicely done Jimmy did you guys use Kinos, and what tripod?

Dude.

That was F%^&ing brilliant. With that kind of talent, you should be shooting videos for bands like outkast. I applaud your work.

Curious to know what kind of settings you used in camera, and if you have any before and after grabs from the raw to the graded? Also, what kind of lighting was used outside? In fact, was there any kind of BTS made for this? Im curious about the whole damn thing brotha.

Much appreciated, and thank you very much for sharing that, it was fabtabulous.

See fella's! That is some god damn art direction!

I came to this thread expecting something along the lines of

All joking aside, great visuals! Thanks for telling us what lenses you used, I had a feeling the mythical 50mm 1.4 was used :P

We used two Arri soft bank kits on the indoor set (all open face and fresnel with a few softboxes), two 4' by 4' reflectors and a 12' silk outdoors. We used two Manfrotto tripods, one with a fluid head, and one for stills that could adjust quickly at the X axis (helped a lot with keeping the horizon for dolly shots outdoors). The Manfrotto wasn't a "true" fluid head, just a cheapy, but our DP Troy Stains handled it like the pro that he is.

Papa, I would love to do a video for Outkast. :) Thanks for the encouragement.

Our contrast and sharpness in-camera were all the way down. I can definitely get before and after grabs of the footage. Outside we used 4' x 4' bounce boards and a 12' silk. Bounced sunlight from far away feathers off really nicely. I planned on throwing together a pretty comprehensive blog on Pony Ghost with behind the scenes photos etc. Now that I know there's interest, I'll try and whip it up soon.

Expect a link to that soonish!

Jimmy, great video!

Can you share your iso settings for this? Thanks!

SPZ, I can't remember every scene, but I do know we never went above ISO 500, and we only hit ISO 500 once. Most of the shots indoors were between 200 and 400. Most of the shots outside were at 100 shot through a neutral density filter and sometimes a circular polarizer. As the day got darker I imagine we started to push it again.

Hope that helps!
