Well,
I just did a search and saw that there was a thread about this back in November when I was working like crazy and probably not checking the boards so often.

I formally apologise for my rant. Sorry Jan.

Also am pleased to see they will cover it for 2 years which means we're all covered for now at least.

Do you have to send it to Panasonic for the 2 year warrenty coverage or will any authorized repair station do that? I'm a little confused because Andrew @ Spec Comm said it needed to be within 1 year.

Also how fast will Panasonic do it?

Speed is of the essense for me.

I'd be happy to send to to Andrew though as he's on the other side of the country I see higher shipping bills than someone on the West coast.

Hi,

Most invoices have a purchased date and a ship date, and then the I would also believe that the serial number would back that situation up.

In every case here, call before you send it and see what sort of time frame. It is a fairly easy repair. Panasonic will in general ship it out by the same method it is shipped in. So before you think it will take a month, call find out see if you can target a window for the repair.

Best,

Jan

David,

Several posts down I say they will cover it for 2 years. I have know idea whether they will cover it for three. I do know they will cover it for two.

Best,

Jan

Thank you.

That's all I've asked since the issue arose.

Again, I don't recall being impatient with anyone.

regards

Thanks Jan. I can't tell you how great it is that we have you, and that you are constantly on this site checking in...

Guess I'll be sending mine in. Glad for the 2 year coverage as mine's about 3 weeks out of warranty.

Does anyone know if there are other issues like this (weak battery mounts) that were changed after the inital series of HVX's went out? I'm wondering if there is anything else I should ask Panasonic's repair shop to look at while it's in the shop...

Wow. Sent it in to Panasonic in LA, got it back in one week. That's incredibly fast.
Fixed. Free. Even cleaned up!

Hey Jan,

I just talked to my nearest Authorized Panasonic Service Center about this issue.

They said that they don't do any out of waranty repairs and since my HVX200 is over a year old, the wouldn't repair it for free unless they got some sort of authorization from Panasonic.

What should I do?

Any help would be great!

Contact the Panasonic Service Station nearest you, either the one in LA or NJ. You canfind out which one is for you by going to our website, looking under support, finding service center and puttting in model number and zip code.

Best,

Jan

I can confirm that Panasonic LA ( after a phone call to Jan thank you) recently honored the newly extended warranty on my HVX (which was over a year old) and fixed those battery tabs in just a day or 2. Great service - I was very happy.
I don't think alot of people know about the warranty extension yet. i think I was the first one at the service center in LA and the manager had to call Jan to find out about it.

What do these tabs look like WHEN they are broken?

Our battery is having a little trouble mounting now, and I just wonder.

not yet, but it seemd like it may be inevitable. I am thinking about the velcro solution to fill the gap. anyone else doing it?

Well, I did the velcro thing months ago as soon as I heard tabs were breaking. I've had no problems. However, I would still prefer to have my HVX200 fitted with the new tabs as preventitive maintenance.

Jan, I've had my camera for about 15 months and the tabs aren't actually broken. Would Panasonic LA replace my tabs since they are now considered substandard in relation to the one on the newer manufactured HVX200's?

I've asked this repeatedly of Panasonic, and for some reason they won't do it.

It doesn't make sense to me because Panasonic has admitted this is a design flaw.

What does is make me want to be less careful so the tabs do break and I can get them repaired within the two year period.

This is an excellent time for some great customer service from Panasonic to enable us to get these repaired before they break and within the warranty period.

Why should early purchasers be penalized for being careful?

Is there a really good reason why we cannot have them repaired as a preventative measure?

I agree.

I would also pay a handling fee. But what is going to happen is the tabs will break during or before a big shoot, or after the two years are up.

This approach by Panasonic is unfortunate.

It rewards the less careful.

To Jan or whomever.

Provide us users with some way to address this issue fairly and expediently.

Thanks

So I should break my tabs on purpose to get them fixed for free within the 2 year period? Does that make any sense to anyone? Or will they upgrade the clips for free before they break?

Clearly the answer that would satisfy shooters would be to have a lifetime gaurantee from Panasonic that their badly designed battery clips will be replaced if and when they do break, whenever that happens to be.

Thanks for the response, Jan.

Unfortunately, we purchased ours in March 2006.

If there is some processing fee that could get the old design changed to the new design, I would pay it.

PM me if this is possible.

Regards

I second that. At a minimal, reasonable cost I would love to have mine "fixed."
