EVA1: Are you ugrading to, or buying the EVA1 ?

It looks like just about any other camera C200 - GH5 -FS7 here's a good link shows them all side by side.

What are you talking? EVA-1 is at least 10x times better.

Even DVX200 is better then C200: it has three letters against one.
And, following that logic, EVA-1 is even better then ALEXA EV by at least one letter, one dash and one number.
Not any kind of number, number 1!

EVA-1 is number one.

Laverdir,

Thanks for the reply but I'm not sure I follow your thoughts . . . you mean like delete all the AF features like the URSA?.

After much thought, questions and suggestions by Forum members (Puredrifting - Dan, Andree, Filmguy and others), I've decided to pass on the EVA1 and get the Canon C200. Probably will still pick up an EVA1 by end of year. Decided to try ANOTHER forum sponsor on this purchase (Pro Video and Tape) provideoandtape.com in Portland, Oregon. I've been hearing good things about this sponsor (Mitchell and Vic) and I'm on the west coast too. I'll add feedback comments on my transaction after all is complete!!!! Again, thanks for all the input, footage, ideas, etc......

Own the GH4 and GH5. Also HVX170. And a bunch of miniDV camcorders which I still use for auditions.

I'm open to anything sub-$10000. Probably going to go with the EVA1 because of the image. I love the VariCam color. I've seen some EVA footage, and it's nice. Plan on using the EVA for an A camera and the GH4/5 for B cameras. I'm thinking it would be easier to match footage in post with the same family of camera. And I've been happy with Panasonic.

Yeah except there is no dash between EVA and 1. I was making that mistake, too. It's the AU-EVA1.

I wonder how many existing DVX200 or other Panasonic camera owners plan to upgrade to, or buy the EVA1 ?

DVX100 and inexpensive Panasonic HD camera owner here. Ready for big step up but am feeling a bit stuck.

* Would have bought DVX200 except for low-light concerns (shooting outdoors) but otherwise I love the functionality.
* Can't get 422 10-bit from UX180, and hear poor reviews of its LCD.
* I like the GH5 reviews/specs but want a camcorder with integrated audio, not an add-on. Little concerned about MFT.
* Am concerned about EVA-1 low weight emphasis and build quality comments from Newsshooter review.
* I really like what the Ursa Mini Pro has to offer but it also was not well reviewed for low light, and some FPN comments.
* Don't like C200 choices between 420 8 bit and cinema raw light. C300 is expensive.
* Hear bad things about Sony color science ... otherwise FS7 seems like a winner, but also more expensive.

I'd prefer a GH5 in camcorder form or DVX200 mk 2 i.e. bit better in low light. Am going to just wait on video purchase or look at renting, and go for Nikon D850 for quality stills and <30 min UHD video. I hope the video landscape turns more to my liking in next 3-6 months (rumors of C200 FW update?) Really had hoped to purchase a camcorder by now and had really hoped for Panasonic ... but it seems finding 422 10-bit and decent low light and sub-10k is a problem and am not sure the EVA-1 is the answer, for me.

I wonder how EVA1 sales are faring against the C200 and FS5/FS7?
If Panasonic can convince existing owners to purchase the EVA1 or upgrade
from the DVX200 / GH5 and other cameras they should be on to a winner.

Looking at the reaction on this forum however it seems as if many solo operators or small scale producers
with one or two maybe three camera are opting for the C200 over the EVA1.
It would be interesting to see if Broadcasters and Educational institutions are opting for the EVA1
or the C200 with its superior dual pixel AF ?

If Panasonic can improve the one push AF and tracking and include some form of image preview
using the ROP app then it could hold it's own against the C200.
As it stands I am leaning towards the C200 but I'm going to wait a while longer and see how
existing Panasonic owners fare with the EVA1,
in particular if it's worth upgrading from the DVX200/GH5

I would wait until Lensrentals.com or your local rental house has an EVA 1 available and then rent it for a weekend, along with the C200. For stuff like this, nothing beats hands on experience. Or if you are cheap, just ask them if you can come to their facility and spend 20 minutes with each, hands-on? A lot of rental houses, if you have a relationship with them, will let you evaluate a new camera on premises for free. I bought the C200 but I am still very intrigued by the EVA 1, I think it bests the C200 in a few areas, but I also think the C200 bests the EVA 1 in a few areas too. It just depends on your style, business model and client requirements, I think either camera is an excellent tool and if I had the funds, I would definitely own both.

So far I have been convinced to stay with the FS7 paired with the right lenses and graded the results are astoundingly good. Base ISO of 2000 (or 1600) is very flexible. 10 bit internal codec up to 4K 60p enables all professional applications. AF isn't a feature that is in any way required for professional use so that is unimportant. I see myself shooting with it for years to come.

It was my understanding the EVA1 "Only " has "Push" focusing without any tracking - is this correct?

Picture wise - you're not going to see much difference between cameras, the sensor technology and results are practically the same. Right now everyone including Canon's C200, EVA1, URSA Mini Pro are all chasing the GH5's quality and low light ability.

Smart business move. You're not a dummy like all of us who keep buying new cameras every couple of years ;-) Maybe the FS7 is the new F55 where Sony shooters will just keep shooting with it forever?

Trust me Im just as much a dummy as the next guy and I am always looking after 3 years of ownership to upgrade within certain constraints but I simply don't see anything that offers such an upset that warrants the headache of re-saddeling and I have no allegiance to any brand. I think lenses have the biggest impact on the image. I jus shot a doc where we had my FS7 and a Red weapon both shooting Log, after post and grading everything that was shot with Zeiss Otus primes on both cameras was indistinguishable but the differences were noticeable (to us not anyone else) where the red had a Fujinon 20-120. Not better of worse just different.

+1 Icarus. I'm right there with you. I currently own Pana, Canon & Sony camera's - but am very much content with my FS7. Not sure what another camera in similar price range could offer that might make me bite...
Bigger budgets, better glass & more time (and occasionally more G&E) for projects... that's where I currently think the biggest impact lies on final image

Time and money

I had a GH4 and I still have my AF100. I have another production camera but I could use this EVA 1 for a lot of stuff I’m getting lately. I loved the AF100 - still use it.

canon 650d.canon markii , panasonic dvx100, hvx200 ,gh3,gh4 and two dvx200 owner. the choice of camera depends on what you are doing with it and where you are doing it. camera of the same generation tend to produce near to identical results when on professional hands. have seen 2k cams producing better results than previous 10k generation cams when on gifted hands.
