are there any good online video tutorials of P2 workflow?

i'm a DVX guy but just got a job using an HVX which i'm excited about but i'm not very familiar with P2 workflow. i just read a bunch of the threads here including Barry's but i'm afraid i'm more of a hands on visual learner. only problem is that i won't get my hands on the camera until the day of the shoot. i plan on going to a rental house to play with one a little, but i'm concerned that not knowing the in's & outs of P2 transfering might slow things down.

does anyone know of any good online video tutorials on P2 transfering to Mac?

thanks in advance for your help!

Using firewire?

Install the drivers.

Start the computer.

Attach the firewire drive to the cam and computer.

Make certain the p2 card is write protected and the cam is set to firewire device mode.

Turn the cam on and make certain it is in the p2 mode.

Hold the MCR button down to get to the MCR mode

Then hold it down again for about five seconds and the screen will show Firewire Connect.

Card will mount.

Copy the card to the desktop - don't make an alias, make certain you option drag the NO NAME volume.

Drag the NN volume to the trash to eject it.

Turn off the cam; wait until it's off and then unplug the FW cable.

Barry,

I'd like to use my Thinkpad T41 to download the files, since the laptop reads the P2 card directly. And then transfer the files from the T41 to my beefed up PC which has CS3 installed.

What exactly should i copy over? I'm assuming the LASTCLIPS.TXT and Contents folder.

How do i delete the existing files from the P2 card?

Pls advise. Thank you

Copy the whole intact volume with its existing structure.

I believe Panasonics p2 utility will format the card in the computer.

As David said, *always* copy the entire contents of the card intact. Always. Never pick 'n' choose among the files.

And, yes, you can just format the card by right-clicking the icon and choosing "format". Or, if you're using P2 Viewer or P2CMS to do the copying, you can format the card from within those applications.

today will be the first time I'll be dumping onto my macbook pro, and I installed the lateset driver. But the only thing that confuses me is how to "write protect" the card. Is this done on the camera, or do I need to do this while the camera's attatched to my computer?

And can it be done after I've already filmed stuff? thanks!

There's a write-protect tab on the card, just slide it into position. And write-protect the cards before they're ever exposed to a Mac.
