Aputure Light Storm LS 1s Review

Erik, what holds up the box? I assume there are 4 poles spreading out the corners of the box, but what's keeping the whole thing from just collapsing?

Sheesh Erik, love your reviews, but you're costing me way too much money. I bought three different Aputure lights after reading your reviews, which led to more stands, umbrellas and a RoadRags kit, and now I'm going to have to pick up a couple of these softboxes as well. Nicely done, but give my credit card a rest for awhile, OK? :)

Sorry Greg......

Next week I'll have a Sony a6300 demo camera in. I hope I dont get you in more trouble.

The RoadRags kit is a very good investment. I use mine all the time.

That ILED looks relatively easy to put on. It's kinda on the smallish size. At $60 its $20 more than the big ones I just got. But the big ones are super annoying to assemble and occupy A LOT of space.

Ordered. Looking forward to the box. Thanks to Erik I have a full Aputure lighting kit with low cost modifiers. All very portable as well.

I have the batteries for vx2000 camcorder and they seem to work. Will do test and tell you how long they last

bump with a super noob question-

on the strength of eric's reiview and a few others, i'm going to pick up a light storm as the very first light in my kit (i'm moving into moving pictures from stills). for someone who will probably use it indoors or with ac at least 90% of the time, does it make a difference which battery plate i go with? i don't expect to need one for a little while (though maybe eventually), i just know they are kind of pricey, and i'm more likely to buy more lights before i start shooting away from ac power.

any help would be appreciated. :)

Find out which batteries are used more in your area - check with rental houses, local shooters etc.

V-mounts are easier to source around the world. I'm guessing they're cheaper second hand than AB/gold mount batteries too.

being here in los angeles, i would imagine they would both be fairly available. assuming performance is the same between them, my only real motivation is price. then again, would i really even need to buy batteries? eventually, perhaps, but i'm thinking the point would be pretty moot for a good long while.

You can always change the plate. Aputure sells them and I don't think they are very expensive. Very easy to swap out too. Just did this with the COB.

cool, i'll get the vmount version. is there any advantage to daylight only version over the variable? i'll probably shoot at daylight most of the time, but i assume the variable lets me match whatever practicals/ad hoc lighting i may have to employ for now, until i get more decent lighting.

and since i'll need a stand for it, any ideas? i won't hang much on it, aside from perhaps one of those soft boxes. could a monopod handle it? not the brightest question, but floor space is at a premium. there will be a bunch of legs and cables everywhere to climb around. i won't have heavier lights to contend with for a while, if ever, so i don't need the heaviest of stands. a second light storm or an led fresnel for some harder light and that's about it for the foreseeable future.

Has anyone bought from www.aputureshop.eu ? It says its ran by Digistore with an address 11 rue Jacobi Netter 67200 STRASBOURG FRANCE . When I went to purchase an LS1 online from there yesterday, the only option for payment was Bank Transfer , despite displaying Pay Pal, Visa Mastercard etc. I then didn't complete the transaction, and sent them an email asking for a PayPal transaction. They just replied this morning, saying the no longer offer it. SO this seems VERY dodgy to me, just wondering if anybody here has had dealings with them ?
