I have a prerelease model in for review for my blog eriknaso.com and so far I'm impressed with the build quality. All metal housing is very nice. The light has a 25 degree beam angle so it's more of a spot than a flood. It's packed with LEDs. Output is a little shy of 1K. Yes it's bright. Color seems very good. Rated at 95 CRI. I have other Aputure lights and they also are very color accurate.

Comes with 10 sheets of diffusion and clips. That's a first for me. The Light Storm gets power either from a V lock or gold mount. Sony NP plate will also be available. The controller has a dimmer and DMX input plus a cool wireless option with remote. That's very handy.

Ill update as I do more testing but for $600 this might be the best quality light so far.

I can't wait to see your review. I've been seriously looking at the Astra panel as it seems to be the best LED panel on the market for colour and output. If these Lightstorm panels match quality I could get two for the price of the Astra.

You must have ESPN, err I mean ESP. :) I was just going to start a thread asking about the latest with these lights. I'll wait for your review, but one quick question: does the unit appear to color match their other lights well? I just purchased a 198 (love it), does the Lightstorm match well?

Thanks Erik, I'm very much looking forward to your review.

The first thing I thought about when I saw the pics you posted... I wonder if Erik's wife is anything like mine?

I just got in a big yellow Innerspace case for my upcoming F65, and I sat it on a chair in the outer kitchen area to check it out, as the wife arrives home.

That's attractive.... It's an Innerspace camera case. That's neat how the cutouts fit your camera parts.... It's designed real well but best of all, I got a great deal. It's a $1200 case but I got it used for $135 shipped. OK, so how long is it going to sit in my kitchen?

Wait till she finds out I ordered a second case.

anyone compared them to the aputure 672 LED lights? How much brighter are they? color temp the same? They seem a little more bulky with the power supply hanging so I'm not sure if I should get the lightstorm or the 672 for half the price?

The LS 1S model packs 1536 lamp beads for approximately 1K output and has a CRI of 95. Thats over twice as many LED's than the the 672 model.

look just like the other aputure led lights but much more powerful. Love the color of my aputure 672 LED, just need an umbrella to soften the light and stop the harsh shadows.

Here is the one liner guys. Curtis pretty much nailed it on features and build quality.

The Light Storm is a very good LED fixture at an insanely low price of $600. It's just way to low for a fixture with these features, high 1K output and build.

It's more of a spot and with such high output you can pull it back for wider shots in a scene. Again it's approximately 1K so for a key it's perfect shot trough a silk or even better a Road Rag clamped to the light stand with a Mini Clamp for interviews or talking head shots. The color is spot on. No need to attach correction gels. I have the 5500K version and if you set your camera to the correct kelvin you are set. Another great thing is they match with the lower priced Amaron line.

I used the Light Storm outdoors too and it worked as a fill along side a bounce board. Pretty amazing. Sample coming. I was hoping the spot would be done but it's still being edited for air. Hopefully Monday.

I'm shooting this weekend to show how I used it as a key with silk and bouncing. It's a very cool light guys. I feel a couple of these are the smaller version would be a tremendous kit that finally will replace tungsten in my kit. I rarely use hard light so if you need that then of course these arent the solution. The shadow dont have multiple layers. It feathers away softly.

Thats it for now. If you haven't check the blog version please do. It has a lot of specs if you are interested it that.

Here are a few shots from a shot using Light Storm LS 1s outside for a recent promo shoot. I'm hoping to share this next week. It worked very well along side my bounce board. In the shade it does a great job as a fill. Pretty good for LED fixture.

awesome set photos Erik! I would love to see some results with that setup!

I see a lot of reviews about the light storms right now, anybody compared them to the wescott flex light? I dont know exactly how bright they are but the one review i saw made them look extremely bright and they are much more portable and versatile than the light storm.
