Aputure 300d

But I'm personally very excited for the Aputure light.

Me too, I have a medium Chimera that I currently use with the LS 1S, but the 300D would be better and give me more flexibility, the LS 1S barely has enough horsepower to really fill up the medium Chimera and not enough for me to use it with my egg crates, which I really like to use. If the 300D is well reviewed, I'll buy one.

From Ted Sim at Aputure on July 14th

"...We're really sorry about the wait. A little bit of information behind the curtains, but part of the reason we kept getting delayed is that we hit a difficult engineering snag on the mini20c lights. It took way longer than expected for us to fix this problem and get our manufacturing back on track. That said, everything is finally solved and we should have more stock shipping out of the factory next week. With that info they should be available really soon!"

Now the question is, is Aputure's "really soon" a month or six months?

From NewsShooter at IBC 2017

APUTURE 300D SHIPPING… ALMOST

"...a 2K-equivalent fixture for $1,000 US – and the first mass production run of the lights has now been finished.
The spec has been tweaked ever so slightly since then to improve colour rendition, and the cooling fans are now red.
Aputure expect to have them shipping to customers on 1 October."

Yessssssss! I can't wait!!! Oh, and hi Erik (if you are still around the forums)! :)

Anyone here going to purchase a 300D out the gate? If so, do you have it pre-ordered?

A little heads up guys.... Bowens Lighting is being liquidated as in... will be no more.
I hope they will release or sell off their S mount.

But its worth keeping tabs on since Aputure 120 and 300 are s mount lights right?

Interesting...when did this come about? Do you know what the timeline is for their liquidation?

From what I gather the workers were sent home as of august 1st.... dunno how long it will take to liquidate it, but what got me wondering was that our local dealer suddenly weren't listing some of their flash units anymore. And apparently some of the other dealers have chosen to take them off completely.
One can hope that Aputure might have bought an eternal license for the mount so they can manufacture the accessories themselves.

Does anyone know what the deal is with Aputure's quoted photometrics for the 300d? I know it's hard to compared to other lights without knowing beam spread/falloff, etc, but the photometrics to me look closer to a 650 tungsten fresnel than a 800 Joker... I love the idea of having some harder hitting battery powered led for outdoor use, but 260 fc @ 6.6 feet w/ the reflector doesn't seem like much for me, especially once you push it through some diffusion.

With Reflector
4461 fc /48,000 lux @ 1.6' (0.5m)
1022 fc / 11,000 lux @ 3.28' (1.0m)
260 fc / 28,000 lux @ 6.56' (2.0m)

Flood
8132 fc /87,500 lux @ 1.6' (0.5 m)
2454 fc / 26,400 lux @ 3.28' (1.0 m)
651 fc / 7000 lux @ 6.56' (2.0 m)

Spot
13,197 fc /142,000 lux @ 1.6' (0.5 m)
3717 fc / 4000 lux @ 3.28' (1.0 m)
976 fc / 10,500 lux @ 6.56' (2.0 m)

It looks like there is a misprint for the spot photometrics. Flood (42 degrees) at 1m is 26,400 lux. Spot is 4000. Did they drop a zero?

The Reflector reading you quoted is for 120 degree beam angle as far as I know.

I borrowed the 120t just to see the output.

With the lumiair octagon I was at F4 iso 2000 at 1 meter.. thats like 10fc or so??...
I would atleast expect the double amount of light from the 300d but still think its a bit little... it will have its uses like everything else.

Ahh, if it's a 120 deg angle, I guess those reflector photometrics make a bit more sense. And the flood & the spot must be with the fresnel attachment. I guess I'll have too wait for some reviews to see if it is truly an 800w HMI or 2000w fresnel 'killer'

Hi
I am going to order one . Could you advised me which mount I should choose , v-lock or Anton Bauer ? I checked online and Anton Bauer seems to be cheaper . V-lock it seems works with most sony camera ? Do I am right ? Is anyone could explain me what is the differences between these to mount and which one better to go . Thanks
By the way I contacted with Aputure and this is what they say:
For v-mount we recommended IDX or Blueshape 190wh minimum 230wh for the best results , you get 45-60min on 50% level .

What this means is that in practical terms you need two huge batteries to have 20-30 minutes of light at full intensity.
This doesn't strike me as very practical except for a few odd shots. Certainly could not run a full day of shooting this way.

I’ll be curious as to the actual output. Based on my (albeit limited) understanding this is marketed as a 2k equivalent but it doesn’t seem to come even close...unless you put the fixture 1.5 feet from talent...how many of us can do that?

For me, this is part of the appeal of LED tech - for certain types of shoots. Being able to put the source so much closer without burning up the talent...
bummer tho about the battery life...
