Apple Slaps Developers In The Face

Apple slaps developers in the face

"Adobe and Apple has had a long relationship and each has helped the other get where they are today. The fact that Apple would make such a hostile and despicable move like this clearly shows the difference between our two companies. All we want is to provide creative professionals an avenue to deploy their work to as many devices as possible. We are not looking to kill anything or anyone. This would be like us putting something in our SDK to make it impossible for 3rd-party editors like FDT to work with our platform. I can tell you that we wouldn’t even think or consider something like that."

Ouch....

At first I thought this was going to be Apple blocking Adobe's CS. That would be a terrible move. I can understand the feeling of being "slapped in the face" I guess, but it's their company, and they can do with it what they please.

"Now let me put aside my role as an official representative of Adobe for a moment as I would look to make it clear what is going through my mind at the moment. Go screw yourself Apple."
LOL.

I hate flash with a passion.

It grabs way too many resources, and causes more crashes than anything on the web.

And the reason for this requirement is to support multitasking on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Vimeo, youtube, and dozens of web content suppliers are moving to HTML 5. Google Chrome, Safari, and other web browsers support HTML 5. This is a good thing.

It's about time.

Flash should go away along along with the way traditional telephone, cable, and satellite delivers services.

We watch eight to ten channels, and pay for the other 60 we don't watch.

Hardly a slap in anyone face.

Apple blows. Always has, always will. Why even bother with this commie company when they have a 4% desktop marketshare anyway. I've always looked for alternatives to the "Apple ecosystem". I bought a Zune HD because I don't want be an iSlave.

No, no, no, no, no. We will not be doing any general Apple-bashing nor getting into a Mac vs. PC debate. If you have comments on the SPECIFICS of this matter, fine. But generally bashing companies? No.

I really wish they would get over this and work on some Apps to hook up the iPad as a touchscreen for After Effects, or whatever comes next in CS5 color correcting wise

Maybe they want to but Apple is being a big bully and not letting them use non-Apple-approved languages.

Oh, all right... Just a little fun...

In my previous life I was a programmer/app developer and I would feel slapped too if limited to just one tool set. And that one was dictated by the platform owner. I used several programming tools depending on the task at hand. We always hear "It's not about the tool, it's about the finished product", particularly when it comes to cameras, editing apps, and the like. Why would Apple want to limit it's developers to one prescribed toolset? That's a good way to alienate potential developers.

Wow. I honestly never even thought of that. That would be phenomenal.

Undoubtedly, Apple was aware that Adobe was planning, this weekend, to announce new functionality in Flash for CS5 that's geared directly toward app development, and presumably it was going to be in their presentation. Seems like Apple could have chosen a different, perhaps earlier, time to make/announce this decision than just a few days before Adobe's well-publicized launch event at NAB. They might have considered throwing out a private heads up, too.
