*Cricket ?? Maybe Apple really starting to feel the pinch ? Everyday we hear about studio and people that are MOVING AWAY from FCPX and not the other way round. Anyways, The pdf link from Apple is below.

Nice. As a pro shooter & casual editor, I actually really enjoy using FCP X. Looking forward to more features and increased support. Thanks for the link.

It's too little too late to get back the people who have moved over to new NLEs...
Sure, Apple's money comes from the casual user, but it's the folk like us that make it cool in the first place!

This is truer than many think. Alienating the media pro is a marketing disaster.

wrong thread title, it should read: "Apple release a guide for the one FCP7 editor that is migrating to FCPX" :)

Those who switched actually switched to "older" NLEs. And Apple made editing and editors cool, not the other way around.

You say "older", I say more stable and refined.

Adobe and Avid weren't so arrogant to think that they "need to change the edit paradigm" when no one was asking them to.

Someone asked me why I went back to Avid.

I said because they DON'T make iPhones.

Lastly, I don't choose an edit platform to be "cool", I choose one that makes me money.

True...for those editors emotionally spurned. Thankfully, most of the media pro act with a level head and not emotion. :)

I switched to FCP because the old Premiere was just so unstable and terrible. I never looked at Avid because it was arrogant.

How about Apple release FCP 8 for all of us bitter clingers that won't give up 7?
I won't go to FCP X based on a "White Paper"......

Urgh, I've just started learning Premiere Pro - are they now making FCPX more usable? Personally, I'm pretty peeved by the whole situation.

Step back and realized that FCPX is what, 6 months old? Sure it has NLE basic principles in it, being an NLE. But it't a from scratch editor. Yesterdays update was a great step towards getting what we need out of it. The more I use it, the more I love it. I think the guys that refuse t acknowledge it just haven't sat and played with it enough. You should though. It's so inexpensive it would be stupid not too. WHat happens if a year from now when Apple makes it a standard and you didn't keep up? Part of me thinks Apple isn't going down without out a fight, and fight they will.
And to those that call FCPX a extended version of Imovie are just being silly. ANd for people that think Apple is just an Iphome company, I gladly invite you to stand in ANY Apple store and study the Iphone table (while playing with your Iphone). While doing so, ask yourself why Apple is so successful with the Iphone. THen start thinking where FCPX can (and will) go moving forward.
For web work guys, FCPX is awesome. If you argue that as the NLE stands, I can't speak for you. FCPX will get there. $299 plus some $'s for plugs is not much to spend having the program and stay up to date. For Hollywood, it's just not perfect, YET...

I've edited on all, and don't mind any platform.

It's really just about what you want to do.

I personally love FCPX, and haven't hated using it at all.

It's frustrating sometimes, but so was FCP when it first came out, and so was Premiere for like 3 or 4 versions.

The difference is that because of the distribution model, FCPX has been out for half a year and already had 3 major updates.

A lot of that is because of the backlash, but the actual platform is very very nice.

FCPX has so many really really cool features, that you're dumb for not giving it a shot.

I bought a bunch of back to school giftcards off people over the summer and got FCPX, Motion, and Compressor for $320

If Apple would just make it easy to transition from FCP 7 to FCP X - I would be there....
I have FCP 7 projects that I have to dig up and re-edit that can be months & years old....
I cannot afford to take huge projects and re-edit them from scratch.
If I knew that I would eventually be able to edit my FCP 7 projects in FCP X
then I would have bought FCP X by now. What is the point in having 2 different
editing programs on the same system if they are not compatible....
Please enlighten me if this has changed because I don't follow FCP X at all.
I switched from Sony Vegas to FCP. FCP X looks like Vegas for the Mac.

Loving the update after having been learning Avid I'm back to FCP. They made the transition of projects from 7 to X easy with a $10 app and it works.
