Anyone with GH2 Battery issues? My camera keeps turning off.

I got my Grey GH2 body only last week. I love it except for the fact that about 50% of the time that I turn it on it shuts back down because of the "This battery cannot be used" warning. I almost through the camera off the balcony when it caused me to miss a shot I wanted.



Is anyone else having issues with the STUPID 3rd party battery prevention that Panasonic uses? I am using the original Panasonic battery that came with the GH2 so it should not be an issue. I can't believe we have to hack our own cameras just so they will work with the Panasonic batteries now.


The battery is definitely making contact because it will actually turn on and operate for a few seconds. Then the stupid 3rd party battery prevention steps in and shuts it off.
I am seriously considering returning it even though I do really love the camera when it actually turns on. I sure hope Vitaliy can hack it soon. I hate the 3rd party battery prevention.


Does anyone know where I can buy a spare battery. Hopefully, there are some shops out there that will ship expedited to the states. Anyone willing to buy a battery and ship it to me? I will make it worth your effort. I need this new battery desperately.
 
Ouch, that's a nasty situation.

As you say, it could be a defective camera or defective battery.

The fact that it's somewhat intermittent ("50% of the time") and happening now, when the GH2 cameras & compatible batteries are extremely hard to come by, makes it tough to troubleshoot or get a replacement.

I hope you find a solution soon, and I hope this is a very isolated issue!

(Where are you located? I wonder if a Canadian, Japanese, German or eBay dealer can sell you a battery? For example, maybe the batteries are available in Japan by now?)
 
They are available in Japan and Europe right now. I am having trouble finding a store or kind dvxuser that will ship me one though. Right now I will gladly pay the extra cost as my $1500 GH2 is D.O.A.
 
try pricejapan.com - where i bought GH2-
i checked for the battery there to buy an extra 1- i think they can easily provide you one.
they also send it in DHL so you'll have it in no time

but i suggest before you buy another battery, or while you buy it, try to find a shop that'll let you test the cam with another battery.
might be a camera issue..

thanks for the tip but it doesn't look like they have the battery. I can't find any shops to test another body out with because the GH2 is pretty much sold out through the entire US. If anyone has any other shops they know will ship to the US or if anyone wants to ship one to me I would appreciate it greatly. I have a great GH2 setup video I am trying to finish but I can't do it without a new battery. This one basically won't turn on now.
 
For whats it's worth, I have 3 batteries for my GH2 and none have issues. Probably a battery issue more than a camera realistically.
 
I heard someone is complaining shooting only 99 photos per charge.
Anyone has this problem? (he uses EVF/LCD auto switch, maybe this will leave the LCD on all the time even the camera is not in use?)

If you use the flash the camera won't last long at all. I never use the flash with the GH2 though and it lasts over 400 shots and about 1 hour for video.
