Anyone tried Ninja with Hmc 150/151?

You're probably not going to get any more sharpness with the Ninja. The HMC150's pixel shifted CCD's are what they are, and they are not full 1920x1080.

Ok. Would be nice with a comparetive test to see if there is any major difference In the output from Ninja compared to the avchd from the hmc it self. On the paper there should be, but In reality? I don't wanna use 1000$ on ninja and disk just to find out there is no difference In the final output that is worth the money.
For youtube and Web the hmc does a great job, but I sometimes need a bit more sharpness or less noisy picture and thought the Ninja could somehow be helpfull for achieving that In some cases? Or am I All wrong here? Is the clean HDMI output from the Hmc so much better than the "developed" output to avchd?

Recording in a higher bit rate is going to be better resolution... but by the time you output for web you would never notice it most likely. The thing is with more data to work with any color grading/correction is going to look better. Also you can record right to ProRez so no transcoding, which in my case would save hours of processing since most of my shoots are long.

No transcoding is a nice deal for me and worth a grand - not so much the time issue, but doing it through FCP, getting the files from the scratch disc to my project folder - and the big hassles with shooting 1080-24 and 720-60 - I haven't found a better workaround than keeping frame rates on their own cards; if I have a mixed card, it transcodes at the FCP project settings and I haven't been able to conform my 60p stuff for slowmo.

That's a real problem if you have several shots you want in 24 and 60 (to decide on slowmo in an edit).

@szimmer
No it is not much but if there is no difference to see, then it is money out of the window as we say In Denmark ;-)

True. But of course you can use it for any future camera too. I hope someone tries it out soon.

Thanks,

Simon

Also, in the future if Atomos will have DNxHD as codec then it would make a big difference for us Avid users. :)

DV magazine just had a review on this. Overall a positive review but the test was actually performed on 150. The reviewer mentioned there wasn't any noticeable improvement as HDMI out on the 150 is apparently only 8 Bit.

"I carefully lined up the duplicate clips from the camera's SDHC card and Ninja and compared them frame by frame. In this case, shooting with a Panasonic HMC150, the image improvement was not readily apparent. One factor is that the HDMI output from the Panasonic HMC150 is 8-bit, not 10-bit."

I just tested a Sound Devices PIX240 with a HMC150. Found little difference looking at a static color chart, but would expect better green screen media. Editing in Avid was as fast as the file transfer (USB3). Have 3.6 hours capacity on a 256G SSD.
