Anyone here planning on getting the C100?

don't forget that the Cinema sensor is the equivalent of a three chip camera, separate pixels for R,G,and B channels. Try find a three chip Super 35 camera at this price, or any price.

...So what's about to follow in the next year at this price point?

I went to a C100 seminar in Toronto on Thursday, and overall I am very impressed by what I see.

Having worked with AVCHD footage for the past 4 years, I don't see many drawbacks to it, especially if you can use an external recorder to shoot 4:2:2 color when you need it.

From what I saw at the seminar, the C100 is using the same sensor and same image processing chip as the C300, so the actual image recorded will be first rate.

I can't think of any other camera at this price point that has the following features:

- Has a Super35 Sensor

- No optical low-pas filter ( very sharp images )

- Produces a full resolution 1080 HD image

- Maintains 12 stops of dynamic range right up to the maximum 20,000 ISO speed

- Runs for 4+ hours on one battery

...The only minor drawbacks for me are:

- You have to use an external recorder for 4:2:2 color ( not a big deal )

- The EVF is very tiny ( does have a nice image)

- It ONLY shoots 1080 HD at 24p/25p/30p ( NO 60fps, and NO 720p )

The c100 just might get my dollar if the BMC gets delayed much longer, i've a feature to shoot and need to make the decision on what to do if the BMC doesn't come in time. the c100 is my next thought, but as some have said the price is a tad high for what you get.

however...

you simply cannot get a comparable sensor anywhere else for the money. i think its price is completely fair if you compare it directly to the c300, but where the price to me seems like it should be more like 5500 is when i compare it to other cameras in that price range and the features they have. i think canon had to play a very careful line in how much to cripple it vs how much to make it cost. they couldn't cripple it too much, and they couldn't lower the price too much, because they would end up pissing off c300 owners, and loosing sales to other cameras. i think they came close to an appropriate price/features mark, but IMHO a 5795 price tag and 48p@1080 would have made it a much more marketable camera

It isn't quite the equivalent of a 3 chip camera. All cameras have separate pixels for R, G and B. It is just that they interpolate for every single pixel, whereas the new Canon system treats 2x2 (RGBG) blocks of pixels as sub-pixels, and performs a colour-aware pixel binning process, turning that block into 1 pixel for the output.
