Anyone here planning on getting the C100?

My only experience is with a 7D --> external monitor but I've never had it disconnect in use, only when the monitor battery has died. I secure the camera end with a lock and the monitor is on an arm most of the time - works fine. I know HDMI is not a "pro" solution but it does work if handled ok.

The C100 has a locking HDMI port so the cable screws into the camera body, so that's half the problem solved, you just have to secure the Ninja input. Also you have backup recording to the SD card(s) too if you lose a few seconds to the recorder.

SDI is a much better option tho, but for the C100s target "DSLR upgrade" market I think HDMI will be OK.

BTW Noel I am on the Gold Coast and would love to catch up with you one day.

You mean HDMI in general (same boat as any DSLR/non-SDI user) or you mean specifically the C100/Ninja combo?

In general-you are playing with "fire" and sooner or later you wil be sorry and lose client. I looked at Ninja 2 today again and no way i will go this way. Not worth the stress and money. I hear C300 will be on speciall soon. I am hoping around $12,000. F3 is now around $11,000. Then this new 1 dc looks very intersting.

I have used HDMI connections many times and I've never had one pop out. The C100 has a locking Hdmi port. Like Matt say above, only the recorder end is the issue. Of course I prefer Sdi. But I won't lose any clients if the HDMI pops on a C100 because I will be recording to cam at the same time.

You will have NIGHTMARES operating Ninja and HDMI.
Nice statement......you might want to back that up with specific examples because this is the first I've heard of it (and I hear a lot). Now if you mean to say that HDMI cables and connectors are terrible, everyone knows that. If you are saying the Ninja is terrible, you'd be the first......so explain.

Mainly HDMI Connections but i heard some not so good stories about Samurai. HDMI connections are not very stable, it is always loose and keeps poping out. Unless you use Superglue.
Since there are users who are very happy with HDMI Cable i would love to know which ones you use. Please send me a link i want to try it on my DSLR. Mini HDMI to Standard HDMI. if possible short ones. Thanks.

On the C300 price dropping, I'm pretty plugged in and I've not heard 1 iota on the price dropping. Your source?....or is this just hopeful thinking?

My source is Canon down under.
With bit of good old "IQ" you can work it out with F55 and F5 around corner you can not charge for C500 $27,000 and C300 about $14-15,000(especially if camera does not have 1920-1080 / 50,60p.)
It does not have decent EVF and other features which F5 does. Also you can get NEW F3 for about $11,000.

This is why you should really have experience with the equipment before writing comments like You will have NIGHTMARES operating Ninja and HDMI.

If you haven't used it for yourself and you are getting your info second hand, you can't make statements of this nature with any certainty.

If you had looked in to the C100 a bit more you would see that Canon and Atmos have been working to make these things operate seamlessly. There is also a video on Vimeo where the guys from Zacuto go over the features of the C100 and show it's HDMI lock, which should negate any problems that have been experienced in the past.

For the DSLR you can buy the "Pincher" which is a HDMI cable lock that I use with the Zacuto EVF, its never come out...

Seriously forums are a great tool, but they are also full of novices who join up and ask the most basic and fundamental questions in January and by February they are offering advice like pro's, that s why you must take a lot of what people say with a pinch of salt and find out for yourself.

Thanks for your advice. I have always used SDI on my broadcast equipment and my dealer did not mention HDMI lock to me.
i will test it. I really need it for my DSLR. Thanks again

As a pending price drop on the C300, are you saying that you have official word from Canon? Because then you go on to say that you're using 'good old IQ.' Either you have official knowledge, or your guessing. Either way, my sources say you're guessing.

Here in the States, a new F3 is over $13,000, including mail-in rebate.

Actually, the C300 comes with a great EVF as well as a 4" detachable LCD.

Finally regarding your "great" evf.
Why do you think all great cameras have 2-3" evf?
I had mine on my XDCAMS and Varicam for years. Just look at one on RED,Alexa or new F5.
Hey even Fs700 has got something.
I never liked "Z1" evs especially on Large Sensor cameras.

I was not seriously looking at the C100 because I was fine with my 60D. Thinking I might upgrade to the the Canon 6D if it has good reviews. The $6500 is high to me for any camera. BUT then I held one at a Canon event in Minneapolis last night. Really impressive! It has a really nice feel to it. Nice size and just around impressed with it how it looked and what it offered. It has a coolness factor about it. It just feels like you are shooting a film with it. The LCD was small but very clear and I am guessing it would work for run-n-gun shooting. After holding it I am thinking of saving for it. If the footage holds up and is close to the C300.

Everyone has preferences, and I certainly respect yours. However, I have no problem shooting with the C300's EVF. It's very sharp and detailed, and actually much easier to use than almost all other EVF's I've used on 2/3" broadcast cams. I have no problem pulling focus with mine, and colors and peaking are all excellent - and by most user reports, that's the common experience.

If you don't like it, and it's a deal-breaker for you, perhaps look at different cameras?

Anyway, this is a thread about the C100, so I apologize to everyone for taking this off-topic. I'll cease C300 discussion..... now

After RED dropping prices and Sony , Gopro offering cameras with over-cranking at great prices, it's hard to justify buying a C300 or C100 at those price points, but I do believe C100 it is a great replacement for a dslr shooter at the price point it's at, not bad if you consider the fact that if you shoot dslr you probably will spend the same amount in gear just to make it functional for the same price the C100 is ready to go right out of the box with better pic quality and nd filters to boot =) IMO

Can you provide a link to this C300 for under $14,000 including 10% TAX?
