Anyone have kids?

I have 2. a 3 year old daughter who is totally out of her mind and 7 month old son that is totally out of his mind. My house is a loud, toy infested, insane asylum. I love them, but it is not easy. Everything changed when they came along. EVERYTHING.

Got about 18 kids running around downstairs right now. Fortunately none of them are mine ....and they'll be going home when the English class lets out. lol

Can't even imagine having kids of my own. But maybe some day.

Right now, we have our two boys 8 & 10, and the oldest step son's two girls, 2 & 3. Nothing but toys, noise, and poop. God I need a real job!

I know all about the poop. Your house is probably nuttier than mine. I have 2 real jobs plus direct and I have a recording studio. I work 70 hours a week. every week.

I finally convinced the wife we need a Nanny, so that I can get out and find legitimate employment ( As oppossed to the "freelance" stuff I do "now and then" ). Where is Fran Drescher when you need her?

yep, daughter who is 20yrs, and if she will ever get a boyfriend, I can start nagging her to get married and give me a grandbaby!

I have a 5 year old, and by all accounts I think I got pretty damn lucky. When she was a baby, everybody said she was the quietest kid they ever saw, rarely cried, and when she did, was easily soothed. She's a ball of energy now and has her meltdowns as all children do, but on the whole is an awesome kid. My biggest concern now is that she's making friends with kids that aren't as well behaved as her, so she's picking up bad habits.

No kids, and don't want any. That said, I enjoy the kids of my friends, seeing them grow up. I really admire parents, especially of young kids - I just don't have that kind of strength and energy, I think I would croak within two weeks if I had to take care of a kid full time.

I feel exactly the same way.

Totally agree as well!! My wife and I love being aunts and uncles but we just arent the parenting type. Gotta agree with the admiration for those that do do it. My brother in law and his wife just had their third. And he's one of those dads that just does everything and all of the cub scout stuff and teaches them how to build things and does karate class with them and mom coaches their soccer team... They're very fun to observe and are definitely a happy family, but they just wear me out!!

We're dog people. Dogs can go in crates. You get in trouble when you do that to kids...

Raising a kid is definitely the hardest thing you will probably do...but it's also the most rewarding, bar none.

Well it definitely looks harder than anything else... I can definitely give you that.

I have a question for all you parents - how old were you when you had your first kid? Did you think you were too young?

One of the big reasons my wife and I dont want kids is that we just so much going on in our lives already and are very happy with how our careers our currently progressing. We're both 26 though and I imagine our careers will both settle down a bit in the coming years. Our thoughts on kids may change then...

I had my first kid when I was thirty and felt like it was just the right time. However, we had been trying for many, many years and were on the cusp of going to get fertility treatments when it finally happened. The ability to conceive drops pretty quickly after 30, so don't think you can wait forever as you might be surprised to find it's not so easy. A lot of women think they can wait until they're 40 which is not the case at all.

yeup, peak fertility is 18-28, so even waiting until 30 is bad. I'm glad my wife and I started early. When my first son was born my wife was 20 and I was 23. Now she's pregnant with son #2, due in October.

I was with my lady for 11 years and no kids. Then all of a sudden. 2 back to back. I was 30 when I had my first. she was 27. My sister is 46 and she has a 2 and 3 year old! NEVER!
My daughter was doing some scary stuff so we thought she was ADD. We had her evaluated and they said she has the IQ of a 6 year old. She is scary smart. Like doing simple multiplication and division at age 3. She just starts some gifted school in september. and she gets to go for free. we think it comes from my mother. Who graduated high school at age 13 and graduated college at 17. we are trying to nuture this gift so she does not have to grow up like we did. I can't even balance my budget.

Kids are wonderful when you are ready. Until then KEEP PRACTICING. That's the fun part anyway.

My wife and I had our boys in our 30's, which gave us some time to have fun together... except for the occasional crisis with her older pre-teen and teen kids. Of course, after our boys had grown enough to become self maintaining, and we could sleep in again... we ended up with the Grand Daughters. Back to poop, tantrums, no sleep. $#%+!!!

Ditto. My wife and I had twins, boy and girl, pretty quickly after we got married. That was three years ago. I'm 25 and we now have a third. Hopefully there will be more.

I like that I'll only be in my 30's and able to be active with my kids as they grow up. And I won't be one of those 60 year old dads at his kid's high school graduation. :)

Bingo!! I want to be the 'old man' that can still play football, go snowboarding, etc and actually play with my kids when they are in their teens and 20s.

My son will be 21 and I'll only be 44, how cool is that?
