Anyone get an iPAd yet?

Battery life is absolutely crazy.

We used it for five hours straight, and saw about a 30 percent reduction in battery.

It is cool.

It's hard to describe the experience. You have to use one for a couple of hours to understand how cool it is. I know that's a vague statement, but just everybody here reaffirms it who has used one.

Speed kills.

Much much faster than our Dell Mini 9 and Lenovo netbooks we used. And it plays without hiccups h.264 footage that both those devices couldn't.

Futuristic touch experience.

Again, hard to describe without using one. In about five minutes users will understand why I am saying. Internet reading, for example, is different using touch and tap gestures to very quickly enlarge the type.

One little app is called Wiki something. Free. Fabulous. and when you use you understand.

I am planning to buy one for my family. But my concern is the news about the overheat.
Any users can clear out my concern?

iPad overheating?

Given the fact that it doesn't use hard drives, that sounds pretty unlikely.

Can you point to some news indicating this?

..I think the problem is that having absorbed a bit of heat from sunlight, the unit overheats and shuts down.

One ought to be able to use a 'go anywhere' device without having to worry too much about being out in the sun...

Yes. Thank you.

I would have thought that would have been obvious, considering how when we normally talk about technology overheating, it typically means it becoming too hot to continue functioning normally.

Specifically, some people are complaining about iPad displaying a black screen with the message "iPad needs to cool down before you can use it" after being out in the sun for a short while.

Well, this is how I'm gonna make $1 million: the ChilliPad (tm). A neoprene sleeve filled with refrigerant goo that can be snugged around your over-hot iPad like a chiller sleeve around a can of beer.

You're all on notice.

One question emerges based on the reports.

What were the circumstances when the overheating in the direct sun occurred?

Apple specs indicated 95 degrees.

Without knowing more, how can anyone conclude that there is a widespread significant issue over any other device in the sun

I was surprised by the speed of the iPad, it is also VERY fast for web suffing, faster than my home quad core PC running internet explorer.

Wow!!

There is something really wrong with your PC set up.

In terms of speed (web browsing) my set up is blazing fast (also a quad core workstation)

Pages are near instant. I use pretty much all browsers, (mostly Chrome)

I've seen the Ipad reviewed on a TV show, and judging from that, its now near the speed of my quad core.

Yea, Anhar, I hear you but my PC is fast and it's set up right, the iPad is faster for web surfing (providing it's wifi is fast), it blew me away. Go play with one when very few people are at the Apple store so there isn't a bottle neck in their wifi.

If it's optimized for browsing, the speed differential doesn't surprise me.

Now if I were to try and render a D2 frame sequence on it with raytracing, radiosity and caustics...

I think the speed is there because it's so simple and not running 20 other startup programs like most PC's do.
