Anyone get an iPAd yet?

I think I'm going to wait until the 3G models are available. But I'm curious as well. (Not bi-curious, just the regular kind.)

I'm in the same boat, waiting for the 3G model. I might run up to our Apple store today to just take a look at the wifi model.

I have an iPhone / iPad app that comes out soon and still have never owned an iPhone or any Apple products.

It's an interesting thing, But I think it lacks on connectivity. Other than that it is just another gadget that I don't need so I don't even think about buying one (although it can make for a pretty nice clapper board!)

it does seem weird.

it might be good for reading(browsing the web(- flash),books or graphic novels), definitely too clumsy for watching video.

it's not a netbook, your limited to what your apps can do.
it's not a tablet, it's not designed to be a tablet. it won't have pressure, tilt, rotation sensitivity, or accurate small detection area.

at the price point of the 3g model, you can buy a powerful netbook that can do anything the ipad can + anything an entry level laptop would.

I don't want to derail Mr. G's thread any further, but I do think it's important to keep in mind that the real power of the iPad, like the iPhone, will lie with the Apps. If someone creates an app that allows you to use the iPad as a monitor for location shooting, it'll change a lot of people's minds. In time, I think we'll see some unbelievably creative Apps that will likely shift how we see the iPad in comparison to the typical netbook/notebook.

I'm not seeing any way to get video input from a camera, even with the dock.

Hence the "if" in my statement. I think once iPads get into the hands of more developers, we may see things happen that aren't possible now. Someone has already written an iPad app that lets you extend the desktop of your Mac to the screen of the iPad over tethering/wireless…

Just because you can't do a particular something with the iPad now doesn't mean someone won't figure out how to do it in the near future.

Fair enough. My point was that an app alone won't allow the iPad to be used as a camera monitor. It will require either a hardware modification (for a firewire or some other port), or a new piece of hardware created that will take the camera video out and somehow send it wirelessly to the iPad. Not beyond the realm of possibility.

But it seems like an awfully expensive way to get a field monitor, when there are inexpensive portable TV's out there now that would do much the same job at a fraction of the cost. I suppose if they also added the ability to record the video (and audio) to a drive, that might make it a tad more useful.

and maybe even stream it over the net/wifi to another location or pc.
That could be interesting. They claim that it has 30io pins to enable lots of new hardware so maybe you can get a good video in via those pins.

Meh, I love macs, but I'll wait for this:

I'm typing from one right now and Im liking it. They are actually very cool gadgets, and is with all things apple, the wow factor is not in the features list but in how well it does what it does do. This will really will change the way many people compute and use the web. I see it not as the ultimate techie device, but as the ultimate Everyman computing and web platform

I wonder what the belt holster will look like. Need a counter-balance.
