Anyone get an iPAd yet?

Tried one yesterday. Keyboard was my biggest concern before trying but worked perfectly. Loved Keynote. Its a fantastic device to show Video, too. I can see myself taking this for presentations to clients.
What are the built in speakers and screen brightness like?

Forget that limited iPad, here is the real thing, if you want a full functional tablet that runs Snow Leopard: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Modbook

OK, time to ask - how many of you really know what multi-tasking is? If you mean: I can open an e-mail, copy text, go to a document and paste text in doc, just because both apps appear to be open on the bottom task bar, doesn't mean you are really multi-tasking. I can do the same operation on an iPad.

In fact, I venture to say, that most folks never really are multi-tasking, i.e.; making the CPU do two things (apparently) at the same time.

Multitasking means that you don't have to stop playing a game to read email...for example. currently when you leave an app it closes and if that app doesn't have some sort of autosave you lose the info. That won't have with multitasking.

To me 'multi-tasking' means having open iterations of Photoshop, Vectorworks, Sketchup and Rhino running (sometimes multiple iterations) and moving between them to get things done, with the occasional digression into e-mail, Facebook or dvxUser.

iPad?

iPad?

hmmm...

Hey its cool if it adds real value, for some I'm sure it does.

I never really understood the the whole iphone/ipad/"i" craze.

I don't know but those 'Apps' seem like just a re-invention of web applications?

e.g:

iphone = old school GSM/Pocket PC

Apps = Web application

ipad = tablet (restricted)

I'll probably get killed for saying this but the ipad seems like an over sized iphone, but without the ability to actually make phone calls...

"I'm getting to old for this sh*t"

But the iPhone is not as popular as it is, because of its ability to make phone calls. It is popular because of the applications, the touch screen, the 3G, etc.

In my opinion, the iPad seems to take what made the iPhone popular, and place it in an easier to use form.

That's similar to what I thought.

Then I actually used one. And realized I was way wrong.

Listen, this thing isn't a laptop, and it's not meant to be. There are a whole group of users (namely us) who won't "get" the iPad because of what it DOESN'T do.

But for the rest of computer-using humanity, the other 95% of the computing world, the iPad can easily handle all of their computing needs. The apps ("web"-app like or not), are more powerful than one might think, and the iPad can handle just about anything that group could throw at it.

No need to "kill" you over this. Your opinion is shared by many. But like I said, it's hard to describe just what this thing IS and CAN do until you get one in your hands.

OK, but that is not multitasking. And when you exit a game on the iPad to check email, the game is where you left it when you return.

My credit card was just billed for the 3G model so hopefully I will have mine this week. I think they bill you the day before they ship it.

True, that isn't multitasking on a PC or mac, but on a limited system like the iphone (which is what I have and I can comment on) multitasking is being able to leave a webpage loading while you play a game and chat via skype. And if I'm correct that can be done using the new iphone os4.

BTW, as of now on my iphone if the game doesn't have some kind of autosave or allocate some memory to save automatically its state when you push the home button you lose what you were doing. Obviously nearly all the apps have some kind of memory so that when you reopen the app you go back to where you were. (I think)

I agree with Mikko, if that's how the game works, and if so, you can't do that on an iPad. But Inaki, onnthe iPad, if I leave certain games, they are where I left them when I come back.

Yes yes true it also does that on the iPhone, that's what I was explaining, that lately nearly all the games not to say all use some kind of autosave system that automatically saves the game when you leave the app and then recovers that savegame when you open it again. To my understanding all the programmers have to make sure that the app is totally closed (read, no multiple apps running together) when going back to the home screen. That's why you can use skype and surf the net together. But again the apps can allocate some hard drive memory for an autosave.

To reiterate what others have said here.

The iPad isn't a laptop nor intended to be one. It is clearly an entirely different entity.

We looked at the modbook, but what is really is is a 6 pounds or so laptop with a touch screen.

We don't want to run Maya, AE or Final Cut Pro on it. We want to get information and email quickly and elegantly using it, and secure information in dozens of different ways that on a laptop.

And far faster than a laptop. From power on to internet to about six seconds or so.

I was surprised by the speed of the iPad, it is also VERY fast for web suffing, faster than my home quad core PC running internet explorer.

I will comment on the speed as well. I couldn't believe how fast everything loaded for me while playing with one at the apple store. Granted it's at the apple store but seriously...that thing was crazy fast, and it wasn't just because the Wifi or 3G might have been fast.
