Anyone get an iPAd yet?

This thread is just too funny...keep at it boys! :2vrolijk_08:
(I'll just stick with my iTouch...it fits in my pocket and does all the same stuff)

iPad users... please check out my free app "iZaza"!
I'm checking it out now.

if it doesn't replace a tablet, or a laptop(including new netbooks) and it's an additional device(accessory), and it doesn't have 3g, and it definitely cannot replace your phone(you'll still need a phone) you can put it to good use only by watching movies and books on it while your not at home.

if it's only good for books and not ideal for movies, it's a color kindle basically.

if it was more of a widescreen slightly bigger with native 1280x720p that can run blu ray quality h264 up to 30p, then that would be a nice gadget.

maybe the next ipad.

@ Amr: The ipad doesn't try to replace your phone, netbook, or labtop... as Steve J. said, it belongs to a new category.
Its benefit is that it surfs the web better than the iphone, that you can take it somewhere and use it all day long without recharging it, that it fits in a small bag and is lighter than a laptop.
I don't want a blu ray drive in it because it just makes the device heavier and bulkier, I rather just stream the content or have it saved on the internal memory. I think this kind of thinking is exactly the reason why all the other tablet PCs never really succeeded. They overload their devices with features, but they aren't good at basic things like battery live, ease of use, etc.

I'm getting an iphone 32GB 3gs next week! for 79€ (new), cheaper than the nano, enough for me. For now the ipad isn't in my list, but you never know how a product will evolve!

Amr, with all due respect, you are missing the point of what many are saying.

This is a new way of doing things.

Until you spend a few hours actually using it, you won't understand.

We have no desire to go with a 3G approach. We use wi fi, and it we do want it, then I'll go with the mi fi approach.

Photos, movies are gorgeous. Our ripped DVDs are gorgeous.

You can stream Netflix and ABC beautifully.

The apps are amazing, and it's just starting out on that front.

I encoded some of our DVCProHD footage, and it looks so good.

We can watch five consecutive DVDs on a road trip without denting the battery.

Music sounds good.

I can dictate to speech using Dragon Dictate.

It's not a phone, or a big ipod touch. It's different.

And when the have color wheel CCC apps, and universal remote controls apps, and a bunch of others stuff, it will only get better.

I won't comment any further until I've tried it... Based on initial specs it's not something I would spend my money on. I'm not a fan of apple products. Don't like iTunes etc.... I'd probably pass even if it did what it did extremely well.

Sounds promising tho...

Question for you guys who know about the iPad.

I'm going to buy the 3GS model that will have the GPS chip, I'm going to use it for navigation with radar weather data overlaid on the screen. I want to get screen shots every 10 min or so and be able to save them and export them, I know you can import images to the iPad but how do you export images that are created on it? iTunes?

I'd like to know that too. If someone sends you an email with an attachment, where do you save it and how do you access it? If someone sends you a handful of pictures, where do they go? How do you get to them from within the iPad? How do you get them off of it? Does everything have to go through iTunes?

after checking out the local apple store, i have to ask...

are black turlenecks and skinny jeans a prerequisite for purchasing this device?

"It doesn't replace a tablet" - odd comment, seeing as how it IS a tablet. Now granted, earlier you defined a tablet in a certain way - stylus', usb ports, etc. Problem is, the tablet has yet to be defined, and the type of device you described and called a tablet has completely failed in the market. Fact is, it's likely Apple has just defined the tablet and you will see future tablets emulate it. So what you are really saying is it does not replace a phone or laptop... which is exactly what has been said all along. It's never been the point. But now we are beating a dead horse :)

Based on initial specs it's not something I would spend my money on.

The wow factor with Apple products are never about a list of specs.

Not everything goes through iTunes. Hold down your finger on a picture received as an attachment and tap save image, it saves it to your photo library. From there you can access it in photo apps, productivity apps, etc. Or just view it in your photo library. Holding your finger down on something is the rough equivalent of a right click.

When you sync on a Mac, you can put photos onto iPhoto and/or access them as a disk structure to pull them off. On Windows I think you just access it via a disk mode. You can also use something like google's drive or Apple's iDisk via MobileMe to store/save files on a cloud HDD.

haha, only if you want to look exactly like Steve Jobs

you not suggesting [insert gay joke on clothing] are also required for women purchasing this device.

the point is:

if it's not as good as a $500 netbook, and the netbook is powerful enough to do anything the ipad can, also having a good screen and good battery life, the only difference is the multitouch capability.

win 7 vs mobile osx
playback of any video format vs limited
ability to store data, connecting any usb, storing devices and cards, wifi, bluetooth devices without any limitations vs ipad capabilities
more comfortable sitting positions of the netbook without too much fiddling and making fun of yourself adjusting a folder type cover to sitting position.
12" screen with more than 1280x720 resolution vs ipad resolution.

pen tablets were around for a long time, it's only used for a specific market, it's not a consumer market like the multitouch screen tablets(accessory - fashion),

the multitouch is not better or faster than using a keyboard and mouse, you actually take most of the screen real estate to use the keyboard, it's awkward.
you change the viewing angle to do it, if it's sitting you have to move it to type, than move it back. it's a hassle, it's like going backward with future technology.

the ipad is like the mackbook air.
it has a very good feature, only thing is, it's not a desirable feature for most people.

it's not functional, it might look good and weight nothing, but if you have the choice of macbook or macbook pro, most people would not choose the air.

the point is:

if it's not as good as a $500 netbook, and the netbook is powerful enough to do anything the ipad can

And THAT'S the crux of it.

It's not about CAPABILITY, it's about EXECUTION.

When someone argues the iPad is better than a netbook, they are not referring to how many random things it can do. They are referring to how well it does a given task. A netbook does not do ANYTHING better than a laptop. A netbook is not a better web experience than a laptop. A netbook is not a better photo experience than a laptop. A netbook is not a better email experience than a laptop. A netbook is just a cheap laptop. An iPad does all of these tasks BETTER than a laptop (with the notable issue of flash, which has been exhausted here already with the HTML5 discussion). That's why everyone who has really used one and every reviewer out there is impressed.

The things the iPad "lacks" in features are things I would use a laptop for... a device the iPad has never been purposed to replace.

And that's not even touching (no pun intended) on how the iPad apps package information and simplify all sorts of tasks with it's extensive library of apps.

Anyway, I'm getting tired of this, although I am getting very good at typing on my iPad... :) just go try one and enjoy! :)

Peace!

That must be why I'm not the market.... I actually care more about specs when I buy hardware. I want the fastest hardware with the easiest upgrade path so my apps run fast and efficient. I've bult every PC I've ever owned ('cept laptops) and wouldn't be caught dead buying a pre-configured PC be it MAC or Windows based.
I'm just not that kinda guy.... Plenty people are that kinda people.... and there's Apples market I suppose.

I would say that is largely accurate. Their market really is not the techie-DIYer. As Apple puts it, their business resides "at the intersection of technology and liberal arts." What they do, they do insanely well.

For me, I think that's the crux of it.... I don't want a better experience in ANY of those areas! LOL... I find it FUNNY that any device needed to be made to accomplish that! LOL.... I have NEVER not once... ever... sat with a netbook or laptop and said.. "Man.. I wish this was easier to read/send email with.." Or "Man.... Hopefully someone will improve my experience with firefox.."

ROFL....
