Anyone get a A7siii yet?

Would really appreciate if you dug a little deeper into this one. Have Hoodman V90 128 GB SD cards which are supposed to work for XAVC 4k I on a7s3, but they do not. Any ideas?

Thanks

do you have proxy recording turned on? try turning it off

Thanks, but proxy is turned off. Still not recording 4k Intra to my v90 cards.. I guess all v90 cards are not alike...

Doesn't make sense to me... I'm pretty sure that the camera prohibits the recording mode based on the identifier it reads from the card. It isn't actually conducting a speed test on the card.

It won't even let you record 24p in 4K Intra? This is regular mode, right? Not S&Q?

Correct, regular 25p will not record. In other news. I bought a Sony Tough 128 GB sd v90 card, and this lets me record in All Intra 4k. But, in any S&Q mode, it demands a cfexpress card. The only way I have found to record high speed in All-I, is to put my regular recording framerate in 50p, and then intepret that in post as 100% slowmo.. Kind of works as it is now, but strange stuff

pretty bizarre. any v90 can absolutely handle the 250Mbps of all-intra 25p.

S&Q boosts the bitrates I believe, because it will write that same 250Mbps to the slowed footage if I understand correctly (so, 500Mbps per filmed second of 50p because it gets written to 2 seconds of 250Mbps 25p)

so, it's no surprise that S&Q requires faster cards, but again - a V90 can handle that

seems like Sony is bilking us or a firmware update is coming

I've been able to record All-I 24 up to 60 fps without any issues with the Pro Grade digital V90 cards.

In using the camera on the gimbal yesterday, thought, it was being a bit of a pain. First, it gave me the "operation not allowed, check lens" fault when I tried to shoot in the auto focus/auto iris PASM mode in low light, then would work fine for a bit in the all manual mode, unless it was a bit dark. I would take it to the van to mess with it, and it would work just fine. Go figure.

It finally came around to working fairly seamlessly, and the couple of final warning interruptions were sorted out with a quick power off and power back on action.

A bit worrisome.

That's some weird sounding issues. I can't see the reasoning. Maybe try updating the camera firmware? I think there's a new one out

Mine arrived on Friday. Been deep diving for past 48 hours, lenses, menus, audio etc...
I have not been on a Sony since the FS700. This thing is a little beast of a camera.

Some quick test shots:

4K S 100mb 4:2:2
24p/120fps
Sony 20mm 1.8
Freewell Variable ND 2-5

HAHA TY...

FWIW...Noticed today that the 4K All I @240mbs plays back perfectly in FCX 10.5.1. No issues whatsoever.
I'm on a 16' 2019 MBP using ProGrade v90's

My bad - I had proxy record on. If you turn off proxy record, it says it will let you record all-I 4K with a V90 card.

And in s&q long-gop HD you can do 240fps into a 24p 50Mbps timebase with no proxies using a V90 card.

Man these requirements for different configurations can be confusing. But it seems like a V90 card can handle all codecs. But there are some codecs that you would need a cfexpress-a card in order to simultaneously record proxies. And you can get away with V60 cards for all framerates and resolutions if you shoot long-gop.

Thanks, Abe. Is there any notable visual difference between Long Gop and I-frame besides needing a proxy workflow for the former?

I dont think you necessarily need proxies to edit long-GOP. Probably depends on your machine. I dont think theres a notable visual difference between the 2.
