GH4 Any new info on 3 axis gimbals for GH4 ?

how do you think the new accelerometer/software based stabilization such as the upcoming SteadXP will compare to physical gimbal stabilizers?

Yes but at the cost of degrading the picture quality. If you have motion blur (which you have most of the time when doing fiction), I doubt their software will be able to remove the blur from shakes. It also doesn't add weight to the camera, so I doubt it can correct positional shakes as well.
 
I ordered and then cancelled the Nebula. At this time I can't afford a $700 crap shoot and don't want to have to deal with China regarding returns, warranties, etc. Still waiting for something affordable and reliable. The market is clearly there for one of these, why doesn't some American company make one ? Or at least why doesn't a foreign company have a service/ supply warehouse in the US ?

Decided to go for the DIY MiniGimbal. Currently sold-out, but they went so fast I'm sure they will expand production. I should get mine around February 23rd. Looking forward to building it, most of the other parts have arrived and are sitting in a box, taunting me.
 
in that last guys video, not jamesbrown, I still see/sense the up and down walking movement. I circumvent SOME of with my manual stabilizer by holding the handle more at a 45 degree angle.... can that be done on the NEBULA4000? It seems to put more of the bounce at bottom of handle rather than at pivot point

Back in December I got a Nebula 4000 for a review and it had issues. It happens. The battery would die after about ten minutes and I couldn't use the PID tuning software.
I now have a working unit that Dave Dugdale sent to me after he was done testing it for his review. So now I can finally move forward.

I found the bounce is tough to get out. The best way is to practice walking smoothly. You have to try hard to not have a bounce in your step and it helps.
I had an idea of putting the Nebula 4000 into my Fig Rig to help make it easier to hold and wow did that make a difference. The bounce is also reduced making it very smooth.
Turning the gimbal is also much easier with both hands on the Fig Rig. Overall a much better experience including fatigue is reduced with being able to hold it with both hands.

In this shot I have the A7s in the rig but it's the same setup with the GH4.

The Micro HDMI ribbon cable makes using a monitor possible. It's angled allowing it to fit without hitting the gimbals pan arm.

I used what I have but the same approach can be done with a rail and a couple grips. Get crafty! It's worth it and now I have a place to mount a monitor so I can actually see what the heck I'm shooting. :-D I've got the Nebula 4000 balanced very well with the 12-35 and the 7-14. It's tight with those lenses and the clearence is less but I can what I need with it. I did have to raise the motors in the roll a little with the PID software and that helped.

The monitor arm is very cool. It's a Xtender Friction Arm. I've had this for several years and I keep finding ways to use it. I'm going out tomorrow to shoot a bunch of test shots and will share it. Since

Mainly wondering is if a nebula4000 would be a MUCH BETTER step up from my Opteka Video Stabilizer Pro balanced rig? It's pretty smooth, but suffers typical manual things... but the WALKING BOUNCE from nebula is worse than I want. Seem like even the cheaper vest systems negate the walking bounce effectively. ... and dont need batties, or stands or software balancing...
 
Practice makes perfect. I think with all stabilizers you have to walk with more of a slid and avoid the up and down movement as much as possible. It just helps.
 
Utterly random idea: Instead of walking, how about one of those electric unicycle things? :p Obviously not going to work with steps, but might do with a flat ground.
