Any lens comparable to Sigma 30mm 1.4? ( Old manual lens )

I hear you about wanting a set of lenses in the hope of matching color and contrast, but I'm obliged to beat the dead horse and mention that you could get a set of four or five Takumars or Zuikos in assorted focal lengths for less than the cost of the 30mm Sigma alone. It's a cheap way to build a set and then use the occasional random special lens like the Tokina 11-16.

Excellent point about lens rentals. I've been thinking about renting the Canon 85/1.8 because I've heard so many good things about it. It's only $19 to play with it for 3 days from borrowlenses.com. Why not try it out at that rate?

I don't think there's much of a choice over the Sigma 30/1.4 without spending more. The Canon EF 35/1.4L costs a lot more and I haven't seen a Nikon 35/1.4 go for any less than the Sigma. Everything else out there is a full stop slower in the 35mm range or more expensive.

For low-light, I still haven't found anything that works as well as the Sigma 30/1.4. A 50/1.4 is just too long and a 35/2 is just too slow, I have both and the 11-16/2.8 too. I don't find the focus ring to be a problem at all.

The next best or even better option out there will be the Samyang 35/1.4 (available in Feb) which is a manual focus lens, which hopefully should come in about the same street price as the 85/1.4 or 14/2.8, $300ish.
