I only Used "Rec Run" on every new Shooting, Did you guys Reset TC for Each shooting? The Manual did not explain much on TC for AC130.
Is Operation time = Total usage of the device Unit Ac130 been used from Factory? mine shown Time: 00020H?

I use free run, and I keep it set to 24 clock (time of day) which helps me in the edit immensely. Some people stagger times to identify different cameras/angles (although there are other ways of accomplishing that).

Operation time is the total amount of time that the camera has been POWERED ON. Since these are solid state cameras, RECORD TIME isn't really the most important aspect to consider, and that's why the operation time shows the amount of time that the camera has actually been turned on. If you're interested in minimizing the number of operation hours listed, your best bet is to turn the camera off whenever you're not recording.

thanks Scapsinger;
I tried Free Run ReC, but it seen like Non-Stop Running on TC even it's Not recording. Have you Reset TC on every new Shooting/Recording?

Andrew that is the whole point of "free run". it runs free of any recording. Never gets reset. It makes it easier to match video footage in the timekine from different cameras.
and as the other post point out if you set it to your watch. no need to look at camera time code to log. just look at your watch.

I too have noticed it is not easy to reset TC (on rec run). I still can't figure it out on the HMC80 and I assume the same for this AC130/160.

Yep, free run runs all. The. Time. So that's to be expected, and it's a good thing. I started using it on tape cameras way back when as a way to ensure no TC breaks (rec run would reset to 0;00;00;00 in some instances, major bummer).

Resetting TC shouldn't be difficult, just go in the TC settings again and change the preset. Good to go. :)

I started using Free Run while in news so I could sync my camera up to a reporter's watch. Any time the reporter heard a good SOT (Sound (bite) On Tape) they'd mark the time on their watch & it would mean it would take less time in the editing booth.

Record run is nice b/c you'll never have a break in time code. This was great for linear based editing as using TC was much more reliable than control track and tape-to-tape systems needed 3-7seconds of pre-roll before you could set an input. So if you had a break in TC between shots from free-run, then you couldn't use any shot that was less than 3-7 seconds after you started recording.

With tape-less shooting & editing, TC is now really up to user preference & workflow needs.

Are people having trouble re-setting / pre-setting the TC? On a shoulder mount ENG camera I could re-set TC in about 15-30seconds, on a HVX type camera it takes me about twice as long going through the menus, but usually is pretty easy after you learn it.

FREE RUN is what you use when you want to sync to another camera or to an outboard audio recorder- the concept is to sync all devices to the same time so they can be easily synced in post. I also like it because you can match it to the time of day and this can help you organize your footage by when it was shot, etc. IMHO it's just far more useful than REC RUN because any NLE already tells you that information by default (i.e. total duration of a clip and what time frame you're currently at in the video.)
