C200: Any good deals on the C200 out there?

I held off on buying a C200 until NAB just in case of any price drops / new cameras, so I’m ready to take the leap now.

Anyone know of any good deals out there? I know B&H are bundling an Atomos recorder at a discount, but I don’t need another one.

Thanks for any tips!

or you can order from Greentoe.com and put in the price at 10% less. Legit service. Been a customer with them since 2013. haven't pay retail price for the last 5 years

I was/am in a similar situation as the OP. In addition to price, I was curious if any of you more long-term Canon users are aware of a possible event/timeframe where the C200 could be updated (Post-NAB). I have never owned a Canon product so I am not aware of their release cadence.

I.e. Given patterns of past-announcements, is there a possibility that Canon could announce new products in the near future?

Feels like there is generally 2-4 years between announced updates. The originally C100 was released in August of 2012 while the C100 MKII was announced in October of 2014 and has yet to really be replaced (unless you count the C200 as a replacement).

Thanks Dustin. I also just read on the C300 Wikipedia page that the MK1 was released January 2012, and the MKII was released September 2015 (that's more than 3.5 years).

C200 was released August 2017. Safe to buy! :-)

Yes, but not in the C200 class. They just showed the C700FF at NAB. C200 is only 10 months old. Most feel the C300 MKIII/C400 will be up next, which will generally cost twice as much as the C200. No buzz about a C100 MKIII really so who knows when and if that will come?

There's a very frustrating website out there called Canon Price Watch. It would be very useful in determining pricing cycles, but the graphs aren't wide enough to hold all the data, and the text starts overlapping to the point that they are no longer legible.

Something is in the works: http://www.canonrumors.com/patent-cinema-eos-camera-with-hybrid-ovf-evf-viewfinder/

I wouldn't base any buying decisions on it though.

That patent isn't really for any specific camera. It could be added some, all, or none of the cinema cameras in the future. I would guess that it would be most likely to show up on a C100 style camera due to the fact that the lighter cameras are more like to be used as handheld camera held directly to the eye.

Surely the C100 will be updated before the C300?

I had quite a debate about this with my friend at the pre NAB chat we filmed beforehand:

For all gear that is available on Amazon.com, you may want to try http://purse.io. You have to pay in Bitcoins, but you can technically get up to 30% discount if you are ready to wait. 15% are rather quick to get. I once used this service to buy two 512 GB 800x Lexar Compact Flash cards. Your first purchase after registration can have a maximum setting of 15% though. Up to 30% is unlocked for further buys.

At least in the UK you can just email a dealer and ask if they can beat the advertised price. I've had some good discounts especially if I've bundled it with some accessories.

On launch the C300II was £11299 + vat and I got a quote (in Oct 2015) for £9980 + vat.

I ended up paying slightly more with a dealer that had one in stock, but still less than if I just purchased online without talking to them.

Being it 10 months old, it would be difficult to find amazing deals on the C200 - if you think it fits into your workflow I suggest you pull the trigger as it being new it will last you a few years at the very least, again only if it fits in your workflow and you could potentially see a good ROI on it.

Goodluck!

Anyone have any predictions on when the C200 price will drop? Its a great camera but we can all agree in 2019, $7500 is a bit steep for this. I could see $5k working for a lot (myself included). I believe Canon has a history of dropping its price after about 2 years. Anyone hear any rumors?

Thats what I was thinking as well. If they drop it around $5k sometime mid year, I may have to pick one up. I just can't do the $7500 on a camera thats 2 years old...even though its a great camera
