...another video for the 301!

Just saw the video and downloaded it too, awesome work! Can you clue in on how the high-contrast look with the really black blacks and white whites was achieved? Some before/after snapshots of the post processing would be nice.

Superb and a very very nice video, I still love my HPX301 two years on and it has been a fantastic camera for the money.

Some nice shallow DOF there too Roberto and not a hint of noise anywhere, it shows that the HPX301 in the right hands and correctly set-up (BBC settings but with cine like v?) can get beautiful HD images.

P.S like the music track too!

Thank you all! I really appriciate your comments!

@ Kolor
I will post two frames before and after when i came home. But the color correction is made only with levels, tint and curves to make it a bit warm.

@ Gary
Yes Gary! I still love this camera too! The scene file is the famous vivid, but this time i've set details at +2,coring +5,ped at -20 and i've changed the chroma phase because the vivid scene file is a bit red for my taste. The matrix was HD Norm.

Thank you for your comment videoatlanta!!!!

Bests,
Roberto

*Love* the scene file you came up with. Is that the stock Fujinon lens you used?

A job very well done.

Wow, I configured a scene style like the one you described, and was surprised to find that Gary's observation holds up quite true on my 370, not a hint of noise anywhere! It was PAP turned off and indoors, although under modestly good lighting - I managed to stay at -3 gain and f/2~2.8
It looks like a very good profile to build off of, because I'm liking the colors and the image has punch, I might use this setting more often, thanks for sharing!

Really happy Kolor! I've spent a lot of time ( well...not too much! ) during my not working time changing settings on the 301, just to see what are the benefits of the Panasonic's scene files! They are good starting points for a better picture. Then i've change settings according to my taste. If you are shooting landscapes or details on a tripod with no fast movement you will have a perfect picture! If you're using the camera not on a tripod you can have ghosting or the famous ( i don't know how to call it! ) pixel floating effect. But in my experience it happens usually in not important areas of the image. So you can use levels in post to eliminate this kind of problems. The 301 has a bit of noise in the picture. In the final render i usually set on top a fastblur of 0,5 or 1 pixel with the repeat edge pixels selected. It's just the final touch! You will love the picture! You will loose details only in not important areas of the picture. I think that AVCIntra is the better codec i've ever used! You can manipulate the picture in post without limits!!!!

Bests,
Roberto

Oh...by the way...if you look at a vectorscope you can find that ped at -20 is ABSOLUTELY broadcast legal!!! And you can push it down more!!!! I've shoot sometimes at -100 and the picture was amazing!!!! I like contrasted pictures....

Haha, yeah, I meant PAP mode 2, which is basically to turn it off. It's nothing more than a post-processing filter, it's called TYPE 1 & 2 in the menu, but I see it is on and off.

It's funny, with my 370 I was running PAP 2. Then, I sent the cam into Panny for repair as I was not pleased with the mushyness of the pans and they said it was normal ~ but set the pap to 1 and told me that would help some.

Really strange indeed... the mushyness usually comes from having the filter set to 1, are you sure it's not something else? I was also concerned about why fine detail seemed to just vanish when I panned the camera, but that has long since been fixed when I switched PAP modes, and learned to keep the shutter on. That said, having some amount of blur in video is completely normal, what sources do have to compare the 370's blur characteristics to?

I have owned many cameras over the years big and small. And in all CCD sizes.
The 370 is the first CMOS camera I have owned. It's disappointing on some levels. Fantastic picture and price on another level.

I have put up panning test on Vimeo for others to judge for themselves.

I did my first NTSC job last week as the european version of the 301 I have is multi standard, the skew and smearing was a lot worse in 24p mode than in PAL 25p mode at 1080, 720 was also better in both PAL and NTSC.
