Ann: New Windows P2 offload software

Maybe consider a pkg price for both Mac and Windows versions? I plan on working both platforms during my transition to Mac so it would be of interest to me. I'm sure others may like to pick up both versions as well.

Sure - the package price for both versions is €50 or $66 USD :)

Now - I haven't talked to Anders about this, but please understand that we're two different people working on our own platform-versions. Not many companies will sell multi-platform versions at a discounted price. Besides - $66 USD really isn't that much money considering that you've paid thousands of dollars for the camera and P2 cards...

Guys - I've set up a sign-up form for the beta-version. Please go there and fill out your information. Once you've sent your application I'll go through them and compile a 7-day time-limited version of the program with your name written into it. I've got a little work left with the installation procedures so I'm propably not going to send out the program before some time tomorrow.

Here's the link: http://www.p2genie.com/BetaSignUp.aspx

I'll give about 10 people the opportunity to beta-test this. Please don't take a spot if you don't intend to give me any constructive feedback. All beta-testers will get a honorable mention in the "about"-section of the program. Thanks for your help in advance :)

Two questions:

1) You mention Windows XP specifically. Is there any reason why it wouldn't run under Windows 2000?

2) Any plans for a Linux version down the line? I'm considering setting up a much simpler Linux program for P2 offloading, but if you're already planning a port, I won't bother :)

1) It might run (provided you install the .net framework 1.1) but I won't be testing it nor will I provide support for it.

2) I won't be doing a Linux version.

Ernesto - that is your third post regarding the beta-test. Haven't you read my posts at all? Check out post #14 and post #23. You need to go to the website and fill out the form in order to beta test this software.

Sorry but my browser din not let me see more than one page (don't know wy, but it fixed today, again, sorry)

Thanks in advance if you put me in your beta test list, we are seriously interested in the evolution of digital cinema in our country, we have an school, aproduction team and been working for more than 30 years.

Just a quick view of what's to come - most likely it'll be a version 2 feature. I thought it would be very neat to integrate a simple MXF viewer into the application so I spent a couple of hours investigating how to play back MXF files. I managed to get it working - although it's not currently playing audio. Take a look:

Hey tony I just received the beta yesterday, some questions though, Will my firewire external offload device be recognized as a "P2 Store"? Offloads are in FAT32 partitions.

Something else, could functionality be added for virtual P2 Folders ala P2 Viewer?

The P2 Genie will recognize every mounted drive connected to the machine that holds a "CONTENTS" folder and the LASTCLIP.TXT in the root of the drive.

I'll see what it takes to make the "virtual P2 folders" feature you're suggesting.

Is everything else working in the beta?

Yeah, I've run some quick tests with no problems but it was straight from the camera and the card inside via USB, next test (The important one) is from the disk directly, I'll give it a shot today or tommorow if I have time.

The rolling menu is a bit too much in my view, I don't know but I prefer menus like these to snap, or to roll really-really quickly but that's just me, also the grayed out label style option give the initial impression of not being able to tweak them, check boxes or radio buttons I think are a better idea, but again that's just me.

Overall great work!

I somewhat agree with you on the interface comments, but I wanted to make the Windows version look and feel a bit like the Macintosh application. I'll see if I can come up with another idea to make them stand out more. One of my good friends is a usability expert and I might just have him look into the interface a little :)

Let me know as soon as you've been testing some more.

So far so good for me. It is WAY faster than USB offload and seems faster than P2 store as well...
